Hi - I've just had the same experience. Ordered a netbook from cobranetbooks. Got no reply to my emails - and the phone line is dead - but within 10 mins of raising a dispute in Paypal, I got a refund, but with no explanation.
If they a stock problem, I would expect an email reply to explain this. I think this is a scam; refund those who complain early, keep internet chatter to a minimum, and milk the website as long as possible.

Cheers all. Chances are this thread will now appear top of any searches on google for when someone comes to research them.0

And from their site
We have a panel of suppliers that can provide us with stock on demand and so we are able to deliver orders direct from our suppliers direct to your door at the lowest possible prices.
Sounds like they basically drop ship, leaving you to pay VAT/customs tax etc too in the unlikely event you do actually receive anything.0 -
You could leave a comment if you so desired on WOT (web of trust) to give a headsup to other potential buyers, you would have to register to leave a comment though.
Doesn't seem to be any point as have just received an email from them saying that as "malicious rumours have appeared on various forums as to the credibility of our site ...we are therefore deactivating the website and we will sell all of our stock on Ebay and Amazon." Whether or not this is true, only time will tell.0 -
I have just got the same email:
"It is with regret that we are closing our website down. Malicious rumours have appeared on various forums as to the credibility of our site and quite frankly this has caused some customers to raise disputes with Paypal against us.
Our reputation is in tatters and when customers start reversing payments it become a complete waste of time.
To this end we have refunded all of our customers that have paid in the past 5 days on outstanding orders. The customers who payments that have cleared and been verified by Paypal have shipped as promised.
No company can trade, when such odds are against it and it is thanks to a few selfish buyers who have ruined our website and spolit it for everyone else.
We have therefore deactivating the website and we will sell of our stock on Ebay and Amazon"

One to avoid I think0

Sounds like a website started by a 13 year old. E-mail they've sent seems so unprofessional.
Why would a company close down because a few forum posts?
He claims that he's going to ship the notebooks to the apparent customers but why was there disputes in the first place if he was running a legit business?
Lastly, why would any businessman call his ex-customers 'selfish'?0 -

What a very odd email?
Can't find various other forums discussing this apart from one or two posters asking about this firm and what they are like, as to saying their reputation is in tatters because of so called "malicious rumours" is utter nonsense.
By the tone of the email it does sound like they are trying to hide something?0 -
I'm not a selfish ex-buyer. I'm a very suspicious potential customer.0
-
I wonder why they think they will do any better on eBay and Amazon ???0
