http://www.cobranetbooks.com - Scam/legit?

Saw these mentioned over at hotukdeals yesterday. They sell various types of netbooks/laptops etc. In general their prices are similar, if not slightly lower than ebuyer / laptops direct, but some items are a fair bit cheaper (esp the acer 1410, and the two acer 5532 models)
These seem genuine with UK address and phone number but google reveals nothing about them.

Thought I'd have an ask on here before considering a purchase.

I received my laptop from them on Friday, which I ordered last Wednesday. The return address matched the whois address listed for the website and the address they give on the website.
The logo on the invoice matches the logo for the shop website and the logo on the streetview on google maps. If you google 450 leyland road you can clearly see a cobra in a green circle above the shop and also this is on their website also.
I have received the goods as described without any problems.
I can conclude from the available evidence that this is a legit website and that the goods sold are legit also.

Always suspicious of new posters bumping an older thread to give support to whatever merchant is mentioned, but thank you anyway.

    And rightly so, methinks.

I'm not sure about the evidence you are talking about as I was naive enough to place an order last Thursday 18.3.10. So far I have had no delivery and when I contact the telephone number provided on the website it was unobtainable. I also sent a few emails but have yet to receive one single reply. In regards to Google Streetview, I wouldn't rely on this as apparently, on further investigation, I have found out that the shop has been closed since Christmas 2009. However, saying that the shop was called Cobra Computers and the website is called Cobranetbooks. I am clutching on straws but will wait a few more days before opening a dispute with Paypal in the hope of getting a refund. Will keep you posted.

    Hmmmm.....is cobranetbooks.com part of cobra-computers.co.uk in Wolverhampton?

Strange thing is I can't find "cobra computers" or "Cobra Netbooks" listed in companies house websearch?

Might be worth ringing the Wolverhampton branch and asking if the Preston shop/site is part of the same firm.

Companies House only lists limited companies.

Not every small business uses a limited company to trade under. The company name may be something very different indeed too.

That said I would expect a legitimate company to show their VAT registration number and incorporation number (if limited) on their about page.

As promised, quick update on my previous post. Just received an email from PayPal confirming that Cobranetbooks refunded my money. Coincidence or what, received refund about 45 mins after posting to this forum. They, Cobranetbooks, stated that they are unable to process my order any further as funds were not cleared from my Paypal account so they terminated the transaction themselves. Yeah, whatever… I’m regular eBay user and never had any problems with funds not clearing. So take it as you wish!!!!!!! To be honest with you I am happy I got my money back so quick.:rotfl:_party_ Am I going to use or recommend this site to my nearest and dearest in future???? NOT A CHANCE!!!!!!!!!:j:j:j:j:j:j

    Yes very true.

cobra-computers in Wolverhampton (who may or may not have any connection with cobranetbooks what so ever) company reg number points to Fiverivers Solutions Ltd and as you say there doesn't appear to be any VAT reg numbers.

You could leave a comment if you so desired on WOT (web of trust) to give a headsup to other potential buyers, you would have to register to leave a comment though.
