  • By the way. If it runs into the bowl without going down the overflow it isn't the inlet. Its a diaphragm or washer as mentioned previously on the flush valve..

seems I can post links now, this is the instructions for the inlet valves in the sandringham

Thanks. It looks like this but doesnt have a delivery tube. I have tightened the adjusting screw, upper right. This stops the water off sooner i.e. fills the cistern less. This seems to have helped, but previously I thought I had solved it and it started up again in the night! If this doesnt work, from the technical drawing I now know how to disassemble it to get at the diaphragm and clean it.

Most modern toilets have internal overflows, so it can be either

EDIT: Sorry just re-read your post, you mean if you can't see it going down the internal overflow then the problem is lower down , my bad

the link I posted is for the inlet valve only, the outlet is a seperate valve which may or may not have a diaphragm, one second and i'll find it for you

And on a completely non-technical note, do you have another loo you could use in the meantime? Just thinking that if water consumption is a concern, and it stops running when you take the lid off, could you leave the lid off and use another toilet while you get the problem sorted?

Yes, Im doing that already, dont like to leave lid off though. Have 4 young children. If Im not careful they will make their own adjustments, or pull it on to their toes.

the syphon height needs adjusting, fitting the lid and push button is causing the seal to lift

That is what I said & the OP still hasn't confirmed either way.

  • Yes its going through internal overflow.

Just been upstairs and its running again. I have left the lid off. Will have another go tomorrow.

In that case "If it goes from the overflow to the bowl the float is not set properly (bend the arm down (if metal) or extended the arm (if plastic) or the valve needs looking at (worn out washer or cone shaped plunger thingy)."
