Palma Nova or Malaga Area?

Hi all,

just looking for some advice and opinions, looking to sort a budget halfboard holiday in June, dates are flexible. Last time round we did 6 nights in Lloret de mar in a nice 4 star hotel out of the noisy area. Main hol will be later in the year so this just needs to be cheap and cheerful and in the sun.

Looking at flying out from Stansted and the best flights seem to be to Palma Nova airport or Malaga, flown to Girona a couple of times and have done that area now really. Not really any really good flights to Reus for me.

Going with my otherhalf and we don't really want to be in the thick of the club scene and kept up by noise all night every night, in our 20s but want to relax aswell.

If we go to Palma Nova will it be a nightmare? its meant to be quieter than magaluf with a better beach but would we still regret going there? We still like activities to do during the day (water parks, beach) and a drink at night but not every single night and dont mind a 10-15 minute walk to get into the main bar area

Other option is flying into Malaga and heading somewhere like Torremolinos

Cost wise, want to spend under £250 each and dont mind it just being 6 nights, so far i'm finding flights for 2 people return with baggage, £140
Transfers we want to be short, used resorthoppa before who were good and cheap.
Leaving a budget of £300 for a halfboard hotel,

Any ideas, how will Palma Nova be? or would Malaga or somewhere completely different be a better option for what we're after.

Thanks for any advice

Depending on what hotel you stay at in Palma Nova it could still be very noisy

Look at some cheap seats to malaga and stay either in Benalmadena or Torremolinos your more like 6 nights to get budget on 500 for both

    cheers,
wasnt sure if it wouldn't be too bad in June. Priced up a couple of options at both and have came in under £500 so its do-able. Lloret was ok last time round but the beach was pebbles rather than fine sand, cost us £190 per person in total for halfboard so was a bargain.

So far its heading more towards Torremolinos or around that area
  • Torremolinos has more to offer-lots more. It has a great water park and you can also use the train which runs into Malaga or Fuengirola with stops along the way(Benalmadena, etc). There is also a water park in Fuengirola. The beaches in Torremolinos are great and there is so much going on if you look around.

Have a look on www.alpharooms.com and they should throw up lots of choice for you. However be aware that if you stay in any beach hotel/apartments, it is a long walk up the hill to town. Also remember that the cheapest rooms are normally at the back or side with none or little view, so paying for a view can make the holiday extra special sometimes. Have a look at the Cervante hotel and if it fits your budget book it. It is in an ideal location at the top of the hill with excellent views, enclosed roof top pool and it has recently been re-furbished. After you have sourced a price try going direct, and if the price is equla ask them for a free upgrade- you never know. Tourism in this region has been hard hit and so deals are about if you know where to look.

To get from Malaga airport to Torremolinos is either a short taxi at maybe 15-20 Euros or simply get the train for around a Euro, then a short walk to the hotel.

    Good luck

Sorry this is wrong - depending on where you stay in Torremolinos it could be a short walk or a VERY long one and even longer when you are going back up the hill!!!
Taxis are available outside the train stations depending on which one you get off at.
It will not be too busy at that time of year as the Spanish do not come until July and August.
It is good place to stay as is Benalmadena - Malaga a fabulous City with lots to see if you like that kind of day out and plenty of good shopping.

DD and BF (both 21) went to Palma Nova 21st June last year, like you they were looking to be out of the madness, but still walk into Magaluf when they wanted.

Palma Nova was perfect, beach is fabulous there, plenty of cheap places to eat and drink.

They got a good, cheap appt on a quiet but very centrally located complex from Owners Direct and did the hol for less than £500 for the 2 of them and had a great time.

Palma city is a short bus ride away and a great place to wander round too.

You can search for accommodation in both areas on this site:

If you do fly to Malaga (IMO) the best place to head for is next door to Torremolinos
    Benalmadena Costa.

Here is a link for the hotel I use when I go,it`s called the Siroco but they do have a more expensive 4 star across the road called the Triton.

been to both places - palma nova seemed pretty quiet when we went but you can walk into magaluf - much preferred benalmadena - we stayed torremolinos side - lovely restaurants on the marina - not many brits on the torremolinos side. We took three girls in early twenties and there wasnt many places for them to go eg good bars and night clubs - they were all pretty quiet in August!! which amazed me. I would also recommend getting taxis from the airport - Ive always found the resort hoppa too expensive.

Why don't you read my psot again before jumping down my throat! I explained that a good hotel to stay in was the Cervante which is not "up the hill" as I posted. I then explained that to get to "THIS" hotel is a short walk from the train station!

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I'd been using Alpharooms to get hotel ideas and was then going to see if I could beat the prices elsewhere or by using quidco

Resorthoppa did seem fairly pricey for the short distances and charged per person so a taxi does seem like it would be cheaper, thanks for the info as I would've been wasting money there and been stuck on a coach for multiple drop points

I have plenty of holiday I need to take from work so we may now do 4-5 days in palma nova in mid May, and then head to Torremolinos or Benalmadena in June! Walking 10 minutes is cool for us so I'll check out some of the hotels and more on the other sites

Just have to hope the flights don't get any worse but it seems ryanair deals end and then just get replaced with others so should be ok :-)
