Mom?

Not so much of a rant, just a grumpy old man having a moan ;)

More and more, I'm seeing the use of the word "mom" in messages.

I know that it's possible some of the members are American but it sems that most are not.


When did this word start creeping in to (the real) English language and what's wrong with mum or mam? :(

    I think people in the midlands always use "mom" like how those up north seem to call trousers "pants".

    Can confirm MOM is a proper Brummy term........it got me too OP when I first moved there from down South but 'tis true.....

  • Must be a west midlands thing I presume - here in the east mids its either mum or mam, depending on how posh you are!

    according to this the americans might have got it from the irish immigrants.
