Anyone got a metal shed?

They're also a 2 person job to put together - the bloke work paid to do it didn't expect it to be so fiddly or take so long, and said lots of bad words!
Work only use it for storage and it does get quite damp. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
The chap on the next plot to us at our allotments had his metal shed broken into and his Mantis stolen which he had only had for a few weeks. The would be thieves somehow managed to pop open a couple of the panels at the front and because the metal isn't very thick managed to pull a hole in the shed large enough for his mantis to be pulled out through the hole and scarpered with it.
The door and the lock was still intact and after my hubby had secured our wooden shed that had also been broken into{our rotavator also got stolen}he went and repaired the chaps metal shed as he was in fact in Australia at the time.
Please think carefully before rushing out to buy one of these sheds and if you can find any garden centres that have them on display do go and have a good look and feel of the metal to see just how good or bad they are...0 -
We have a metal shed as we live on a mobile home residential site and this is all you are allowed to have no wood, ours has freezer, washing machine and tumble drier in it, and yes condensation in the winter is a problem, but with the harsh winter we had i just put a small heater in it, but this also aided us with the pipes not freezing to the washing machine! In the summer they are VERY hot in direct sun.
As for putting together they are a bu@@a, as once the main frame is up and you then put the roof on you have to pull and push it to get it to fit, well we did and we have put 2 up!!
And yes as regard to breaking in to them they can just push the doors in with force but my hubby screwed a plank of wood just over the door bit and when we go away secures the doors with screws to this, but we only ever do thus when we go away not everyday of course!Sealed pot challenge number 003 £350 for 2015, 2016 £400 Actual£345, £400 for 2017 Actual £500:T:T £770 for 2018 £1295 for 2019:j:j spc number 22 £1,457Stopped Smoking 22/01/15:D:D::dance::dance:- 5 st 1 1/2lb :dance:0 -
We have one we are temporarily using as tool storage... and it is noisy and clattery when you accidentally hit the walls or roof. We bought ours for the allotment but moved and put it up in our garden. It took ages to assemble and we ended up finishing the job off by torchlight - also involved much cursing from us!:A0

not being argumentative or anything, but a wooden shed is just as easy to break into, infact a hammer and nail bar and you would be in really quick ( and if your stealing machinery, i guess it was planned )
so i hope the OP doesnt get swayed by your post0 -
Matt,if you had read my post you would have seen that i had already stated that our wooden shed had got broken into at the same time as the chap next doors was and I wrote that our rotavator too was stolen.
In actual fact our wooden sheds have been broken into three times now and we have had tools and the rotavator stolen. We have got to the stage now that we take everything home with us {all the tools that we have had to replace} as we can no longer trust leaving them to get stolen by certain people who think they are above the law.
It saddens me that people have no respect for other peoples property, and don't care that we and others have had to work long and hard to buy the equipment plus the new locks just to try and grow a few fruit and veg.
No worries about arguments,I just walk away from them:D and was just stating an observation regarding our fellow plot holders metal shed0 -

Hi
yes i read your post and i knew what you meant, i just didnt want the OP to be put off because of it
thats why i added i didnt want to be argumentative, as my reply really wasnt trying to be, just pointing out that the metal shed isnt anymore or anyless secure
i take my stuff home aswell, i am rather mistrusting and do not want to lose my rotavator and petrol strimmer ( though i got the rotavato off ebay and only paid 100 quid for it, and the petrol strimmer was broken and cost me 20 quid, its still mine and i want to keep it ), i leave our B&Q tools in our shed, we take home our slightly more expensive stainless steel tools, its a sad world that you cannot leave a few tools in a shed0 -
Hi Matt be careful about buying rotavators off of ebay as it might be ours lol.{Ours was a red one}
Seriously though it is sad that in this day and age we cannot enjoy the pleasures of our hobby and after each time that the sheds were broken into we have been so upset we have felt like calling it a day ont he allotments and not bothering with it,but then when i buy the stuff from the supermarkets that we can't grow when it is out of season then we think we are being robbed once again not only in taste but also in quality of the fruit and veggies, they try to palm us off with.
I am always shouting loudly when i spot their mouldy damaged food, that it is a disgrace that they can be making millions from us by selling such shoddy goods, but that is going off topic and another story altogether...:rotfl:
PS,like your website,do you do foods for Diabetics?:)0 -

just search on ebay for circular-soffit-vents, about 5 quid for 10
fit them before you put the shed together and it will be easy to do
DO NOT FORGET to paint the edge of the metal you cut out, it will stop rush
if the metal shed ticks you box's, then get it and fit a few air vents, job done
Would the soffit vents fit a box profile metal shed I believe most metal sheds are box profile as it gives the thin metal strength. The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0 -

We were not allowed sheds on the lotty, but did suffer from vandalism & theft, so I gave mine up, it just was not worth the effort of growing stuff only to have a toe rag think it was the local free greengrocersWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0
