''they may turn up - just have proof of who you are handy eg passport and rent book/mortgage agreement.

Houses no longer get blacklisted - credit searches go by name.''

    Should you have to? No.

Will it make them go away faster? Yes.

I tend to take a pragmatic rather than moral approach to irritating situations. Your stance may vary.
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

Fair enough but I'm not aware of any requirement to do this. It might make it easier to get rid of them but then again so would just not answering the door :)

Your daughter didn't have to show any ID when someone turned up a few weeks ago did she?

well I've rung the company after checking them out online and explained the situation. They've noted it all down and said "hopefully this will be the last we hear from them" I said " it better be the last time, because a) I'm not that person and b) they do not live here and any further letters will be binned!

DEBT FREE for the first time in 10 years and with savings!

    Leni,

I've had a number of these, just rang the company (debt collection or otherwise) said I've opened it in error and that the person no longer lives at this address. Never heard from any of them again after making the call. Do that and then you don't need to worry.

of course not - now you really are getting qute ridiculous. If you had been like this when uou referred me to Alliance and Leicster I would have used somebody else. Please stop trying to be clever with me. I am only passing on my personal experience.

I'm sorry you're taking my comments in that way but I think some of the comments in this thread are inaccurate, scaremongering, and have not been backed up by any evidence.

The fact is that the credit record of any previous occupant of a house will not affect the current occupants, and in the unlikely event that anyone arrives at the house trying to contact the previous occupant, you will not be required to prove who you are to get rid of them.

I've only just noticed this post. I think what doesn't help is people being given potentially worrying incorrect information without any facts to back it up.
