Leaving Sky But Keeping Free Channels

I haven’t got Sky myself but little Sis has, however, she now wants to dump it – no haggling, she’s not looking a better deal, she’s just cancelling.
Away back last year sometime I read an article, whether on this Board or not I’m not to sure but it was to do with quitting Sky and still been able to hold onto their free channels.
I think it ran something like this.
Before telling Sky you’re cancelling your contract ring them up and tell them your card has got damaged and they’ll send you a new one, replace the old one with the new one and then phone Sky and tell them you want to cancel your contract. They send the cancellation signal down the wire but for some reason or other they zap the original card and the new one continues to function letting you watch their no-free channels.
I’ve done a bit of searching about on this particular thread but can’t seem to find anything about it – with 195 pages where do you start !
I think I have a grasp of the general principal but would like to read up on the particulars before advising little Sis; so if anyone can help me out in this regards I’d be grateful, even if it is only to point me to the posts covering this topic.
Then again maybe I haven’t got over St Patrick’s day properly

Cancel and you still get the free channels anyway, you do not need a "damaged" card (even with no card in the box you get quite a few free channels).0

Just cancel Sky .. the existing card ( white card ) will work just fine as a Freesatfromsky Card without any further payment to Sky.0

Would this work the same for the sky hd box ?
try it and see

With no subscription, you have to pay £10/month if you want to keep the recording facilites.
If that's what you need, you could look at a Freesat+ box.
There is obviously the initial outlay, but there are no further charges.Dave. :wave:0 -

this may be a daft question but do you still get sky channells with the humax box or do you just get the freeview channells?0
