Not a bad spec would make a nice home starter PC

What's with the Phenom CPUs, are they AMD offerings on low-powered CPU solutions ?

Why bother replying if you don't know basic stuff like this? :A The Phenom II X4 is AMD's high-end range, designed to compete with Intel's Core2Quads. It's not up on a level with the new i5/i7 processors but then it is from an older generation.

No not really, although there are a few slowed down "energy efficient" models they are not exactly low powered. You could consider Phenom II X4's to have a similar performance to Intel's Core 2 Quad's in most things.

Simply put because I couldn't be bothered to look up what they were

I'm no longer a geek interesting in knowing the ins and outs of what each processor models are. I thought the Phenom may have been the equivalent of Intels Nehalem CPUs (low TDP, high CPU power)

Quad core ... 4Gb RAM ... 1Tb HD. I wouldn't call it a "starter PC"! It's considerably more than the average user will need and its verging towards high end

Give it 6 months it will be out of date again :) the spec is actually overkill for nearly all types of user

I can happily work away on a PC with 1GB Ram and Dual Core CPU with no problems

You only need huge memory if your playing games, video editing or running Vista / Windows7, it's storage space what's more important than anything else

I'd quite happily buy a PC like that but I'd rather build one of my own spec. At that price there is going to be comprimises somewhere

Nehalems aren't particularly low TDP - the current crop have the same TDP range (95-130W) as the power-hungry Pentium Ds from back in the day. You're thinking of the previous generation (the Core2Duo/Core2Quads) which generally had lower TDPs of 65W.
The new Nehalem-based i processors are pretty greedy in terms of power consumption, which is why they suck so much for laptops.
