Hi, I think I am about to shot my self on a great idea of mine!!!
I have purchased a electric monitoring unit, which will be here next week.

We have an key meter, a family of 4, two girls 18&16 wife & I.
Are cooking and heating is supplied by gas. Every thing else is electric including the shower

So my question is with the same as us if possible, how much money do you put in per week in electric,we use about £6.70 a day = £46.9,is this a lot???

I will let you know why I may of shot my foot latter.

  • Meters are way more expensive than normal meters. My sil has a monitor and personally I think it is terrible cos she can see her money being burnt. and so the house is freezing as you can see the peeks when things are on. It is good in one respect but if you are watching the pennies it really makes things worse.

Not sure I am paying £54 a month family of 4 for gas and electric on DD.
We turn things off when not in use and never leave things on standby.

As for the monitor if you are already struggling to heat the house it will not help, the best way is to look at where you are using gas and electric.

There is now next to no difference between credit/quarterly bill meters and prepayment meters, in fact some tariffs are cheaper for prepayment customers. Don't get me wrong, it's not ideal (having to top it up, etc.) but they're great for budgetting and not spending more than you can afford to. Another thing to consider is you don't receive direct debit discount on a prepayment meter, nor can you go onto most cheaper Online tariffs, but the ability to truly budget your spend can be worth it's weight in gold.

I would venture to suggest that prepayment meter costs will be up to 40% more expensive than the cheapest internet tarrifs.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Hiya, £46.90 on electric is quite a lot per week. You do not say what type of house the 4 of you live in ? How insulated your house is?

Spill the beans??? why? what do you run on electric that is very hungry?
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

we are also a family of 4 and i put £15 on my pre pay every week but never use all this, i just keep topping it up. i used to have a card meter for my gas but had it changed so i can pay dd each month, wish i hadnt now as i like to see how much im using, even though i go on smart meter i would still prefer to have a card meter. also because of still having a pre pay for electric like someone else said on here i can only have standard gas and cannot take advantage of other tarrifs.
I will lose 2 stone by this summer!!!!!!

Oh dear, fish for a hobby. We have one tank and if I had my way it would not be here as it is not well kept.

My house also has 4 the same as you, kids a bit older and we use £10 of electric per week. The house is well insulated.

We are a family of 6 and we use about £45 a week on electricity however we dont have any gas bills at all, our heating runs off the electric too. We are also a prepayment meter.
