One thing certain is that the market will crash as it has in the past, but when? That is the BIG question.

Yes that's the crowd I was thinking of pwpevans. Same old message - the market is going to crash horribly, but yet we have several stock tips that are going to do really well.

Another example found in my e-mail, sent in July 2009:
    Tuesday 13th October 2009
    Fellow ADVFN user,

Get out your calendar and circle that date right now.
It’s on this day - or very soon thereafter - that the most devastating monetary event in 34 years will rip through the UK economy.
    Mark my words.
This "event" will have severe - and far reaching - consequences for you and every other saver and taxpayer in the UK...
Imagine the money in your pocket not worth the paper it’s printed on... tripling the cost of everything from food to energy... destroying your income and savings... plunging UK stocks to ever deeper levels... with mln's more being wiped off pension and investment funds...
This is not some nightmare fantasy scenario, but a very real prospect for you in 2009.
Of course you can ignore this warning and do nothing. Watch your wealth get eaten away........

Weren't quite correct there were they?

At the end of the day, if they have this amazing insight into what the markets are going to do, what are they doing selling newsletters? They should all be multi millionaires by now. If you could predict that the FTSE 100 would be at under 3000 by June 2010, you could make an absolute fortune in a very short time by shorting the index.

It's from a fleet street investment group

Dont they just keep the same text on their publications and just update the dates every 6 months. Sooner or later they will be right.

There are some people on this planet who are completely bonkers, and best ignored.

I mean, how else should you deal with those who are constantly saying to everyone, that gold will never become worthless. Just because it never has in the past.

Not only that, but some people will say it at least five times before breakfast.

Not to mention that the Ftse 100 is fairly outward looking with around 70% ex UK exposure.
That won't help if there's a sentiment-driven recoil from UK shares including lots of foreigners selling because of concerns about what a drop in the Pound will do to the value of their holdings. In that situation it's best not to be holding FTSE 100 shares. At other times their non-Pound revenue is helpful if the Pound drops, but not if it's accompanied by lots of selling. You can end up taking a loss on the share price just because everything is dropping.

Without checking, I might have as much as 30% of my fund money in UK holdings. More if you count cash but still a minority.

On the old Channel 4 financial forum , there used to be a prolific poster call Pfusk. He seemed to be dead accurate in his predictions on what was about to happen to the UK/world economy /banks from a good 18mths or so before anything started to look bad. Are you on here Pfusk ? Anyone else on here remember that forum?
