The Halifax email sounds like a joke. Most men carry bags over their shoulders to put work things in and just to carry things about, the word "man bag" makes it sound like a handbag, which I don't think it is.
As far as I'm aware a "man bag" is a specific type of bag as apposed to other types of bag - rucksack for example.0 -
lol. I see kids(boys and girls) with rucksacks. Should we call them man bags as well?0

I thought manbags were those overgrown wallet things with a loop to go round the wrist. Is that not the case (no pun intended) ?.................
