40% of men carry man bags ? It must be 80% in Chelsea 'cos it's zero per cent in Pontefract :D

Note the article says "four in 10 men (38 per cent) now use a hand-bag" - it doesn't claim that they carry such a bag all the time, just that they use one at some time. For example I use one on the way to work (mostly by car), but not outside of commuting. I would therefore be in the 38% of men who "use" a bag, but unlikely to be seen carrying a bag as you describe.

Carrying or owning - they're still not doing it in Ponte and seem to be managing quite well with briefcases, backpacks and snap tins :D

why do i get the desire to point and fall on the floor laughing when i see a man with a handbag

I have no issues with gay people, passing 2 guys holding hands in the street wouldn't even make me look up.

I have nothing but admiration for people that refuse to conform and have the most overt clothing / hair / piercings / tattoos

I have no issues with transvestites, growing up i loved rocky horror and i have nothing but respect for Eddie Izzard for having the balls to performing in a dress.

So why do i find a man with a handbag so !!!! myself funny? Is it the inner Neanderthal?

Why does a handbag draw attention on a guy when a ruck sack is fine???

Time to go clean the calluses on my knuckles ...

I too suspect half (or 99.9%) of the "stolen" man-bags in the pub are just people putting this new bag thing they've just got, down somewhere, and never remembering to pick it up again.

I have a backpack that has a specially cushioned area for my laptop, and for everything else I have pockets. No rustling around in the bottom of a handbag for me. Wallet in one side, phone and keys the other, anything else in the large pockets on the thighs.

On another point, I suspect thefts of backpacks and briefcases can be similarly attributed, pubs, muggings etc. Unless of course there's a psychological issue of targeting someone with a man-bag before targeting one with a backpack?

I have one of these, but its more a case of a "student bag" If someone nicks my stuff, I would be VERY devastated(fortunately I back my work up though!) but theres nothing in there of value

    In my bag, I have
    2 Barclays pens(free)
One very detailed booklet on "number systems" and "communication tech"
    Other very detailed books
    A Pukka Pad(about a fiver)
The bag itself cost about £14, so if some one is to steal my bag, I would lose £19

I do have a netbook, but thats in its own case and it stays at home because where I study, they dont have wireless connection unfortunately

My OH was coming home drunk from the cricket ground one day last year when he was set upon by a gang of muggers. They pushed him to the ground, started kicking and beating him and stole his MP3 player. When he got in the house, I asked him where his "man bag" and it's contents were and he didn't know, so we assumed they had also been stolen. The next morning he went out to the shop and it was there on the bin, he must have put it there to get his keys out and totally forgotten to bring it inside the house!

How can they not list Joey Tribbiani as a famous man bag carrier?

Possibly because he is a fictional character.

The Halifax email sounds like a joke. Most men carry bags over their shoulders to put work things in and just to carry things about, the word "man bag" makes it sound like a handbag, which I don't think it is.
The crime level for bags carried by men is supprisingly high, I do think men are less careful with their belongings, I don't think I fit in that category but lets hope this doesn't happen to anybody on here anytime soon.
