Council Tax - whats yours and do you think it a good system?

I'm paying for the services to be available for the community, not specifically for me or my household.
Yes so proportional the more people you have the more you should contribute to the community as you are a greater share of the community.
Why should someone pay more based on the house they live in and not by the number of people they have in it?0 -
I believe you should contribute to the community according to your salary and you obviously think everyone should contribute the same, regardless of income. Rather than go round in circles I think we have to agree to disagree0

That is partly funded by NI but could be used by anyone at any time at any cost and was set up to benefit all? It is not the same as how much waste I produce IMHO.
But you have to admit the service providing by a council are different so why should it be based on the same as income when we already pay an income tax that already increases on the more you earn?
As I said in my first post - the county council highest spend is on Adult Social Service - nothing to do with services each house recieves and exactly the same type of spend as the NHS. Bins waste etc that is in the local city tax element which is much smaller than the county component.0 -

No I said contribution based on capita and discounts based on affordability.
As part of a family myself, I don't think a couple should pay as much as me it is disproportional to use of service.
Or indeed should a person with 4 adults and 4 children living in a house.0 -

And I have no problem with that but a charge on a house is still not a fair distribution of cost IMHO. You can still split costs like that to per capita without changing the funding of the service.
All I am saying is that I think the way it is charged at the moment makes no sense as it is purely based on what you live in.0 -
Lancashire:
Council tax - Band E - £1883.33, 0.3% increase on last year.
Water unmetered - can't remember exactly, but about - £600-£650. Landlord won't go for a meter.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
When I purchased my house in the late 80's the yearly rent was £75, I now pay that a month and with fornightly refuse collection the services I receive certainly haven't improved.0

Per capita,
Incremental on adults and children living in a property and discounts based on affordability.
EG I could move my parents in, they no longer pay council tax I pay no extra council tax but my use of landfill, services etc would have increased.
How is that fair?
over a life time it probably evens out for most people0 -
