Focus - 1.8 or 1.6?

i have a 1.6. my mate had a 1.8
unladen they were both identical,but with a car full of people and a full boot the 1.8 is a bit quicker.
5th gear in the 1.6 is a bit too high a ratio, i often find me having to drop to fourth when trying to pick away at motorway speeds,but once its back at 65mph it has enough steam to get going in 5th.
the 1.6 is a different engine to the 1.8. the 1.8 can have porous issues with the sump,where as the 1.6 will not. theres a few other potential reliability issues where the 1.6 comes out better.
both are good,but if you carry more than 2 folk with luggage then go for the 1.8. theres also the 2.0 litre to consider aswell which uses the same block and configuration as the 1.8.
