Focus - 1.8 or 1.6?

Morning all,
I am hoping to view a couple of used Ford Focuses next week. One is a 1.6 and the other is a 1.8.
Obviously, that's a difference in engine size, but how does that translate into real life?
I usually do one or two 4-500 mile round trips every couple of months or so, but other than that, I do local mileage, so would it make much difference which engine I went for?
Regards.

I'd go for the 1600 personally - seems more than adequate in a Focus-sized car and it'll be cheaper to run than the 1800 engine.0

All other things being equal, I wil probably opt for the 1.6 for that reason. I guess I just want to check that there is no major advantage to the 1.8 over the 1.6.0 -
Well the obvious advantage would be that the 1800 is the better engine performance-wise - acceleration would be quicker for example, bit better pulling up hills.
I don't think the advantages outweigh the higher cost of fuel, tax, insurance etc...

That seems a pretty sound analysis of the pros and cons.

i had the 1.8 focus and to be honest wished i had either gone for the 1.6 for better economy or the 2.0 for better performance
it sits in the middle and does neither0 -
I could be wrong but I think the 1.6 is a newer more efficient engine, and also falls into a lower co2 bracket and possibly has lower insurance as well.
With regard to power outputs there may be little difference.
To further complicate this there could well be two maybe in three versions of the 1.6 engine available (as in different power outputs - not as in petrol and diesel).
Worth doing all the research before buying the car. Also are the mark 1,2 or 3.0 -
According to Parkers:
1.6LX: 98bhp, 0-60 in 11.5 sec, and on to 112 mph, 42mpg combined.
There was also a 115bhp 1.6: 0-60 in 10.5, on to 118mph, same mpg.
1.8LX: 123bhp, 0-60 in 10.0 sec, on to 123mph, 40mpg combined.
On the basis of that there doesn't really seem to be much advantage to the 1.8, on paper anyway.0
