Can I return an unused lipstick to Selfridges for a refund?

Just wondering if it's even worth trying it. It hasn't been used at all. It was quite an expensive Dior one which I always wear, I bought one for myself today, yet unbeknownst to me my mum's already bought me one herself... and I kind of want the £20 back right now, could do with it. It does say "if you are not happy with your purchase please return it in a saleable condition within 14 days with your receipt for an exchange or refund" on the receipt. Doesn't mention anything about cosmetics, only that the "Wonder Room, Technology and Furniture Hall" have their own policies.

There is probably some disclosure somewhere about cosmetics. Most cosmetics cannot be returned for a full refund unless faulty, mainly for potential hygiene reasons. Basically you don't have a right for a refund either unless it's faulty.0

Is it sealed? Or do they not come sealed?0

Only one way to find out for sure Ask the store surely they have a number on receipt that would be my first point of contact.0

I have returned cosmetics before to shops and they've accepted them, but they have always been sealed, if they're not sealed I don't think the shop will accept them because they can't then resell them because of health & safety.[STRIKE]Seventeen[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Eighteen[/STRIKE] Nineteen(!) year old student - dim at the best of times0

Can I just ask why you would return a sealed item? I'm only wondering because you wouldn't have looked at it so I'm curious why you would then want to return it for refund as you wouldn't have actually seen it out of the wrapper? (Actually I'm just being nosey)

It was a moisturiser for my mum's birthday, gave it to her but then realised it contained a few chemicals that would be too harsh for her sensitive skin (I should have checked, silly me) But it came in a box that was wrapped and had a bar code over the wrapping.[STRIKE]Seventeen[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Eighteen[/STRIKE] Nineteen(!) year old student - dim at the best of times0 -
Your post says lipstick....
now it's a moisturiser? Is it a lipstick moisturiser? Not being funny, just as a bloke don't know the difference
Seriously though, if you really need the £20 why did you buy the blooming thing in the first place?0 -
