Rant of the Week! Debt adverts on Kids' TV

Jellyhead
It is just not "go on holiday" some of them mention a new car etc. Very responsible - I don't think.
What happened to the old advice "If you are in a hole - stop digging"?
Their motto seems to be "Dig faster and for longer""This site is addictive!"

Martin, you are better off calling this knee cap finance, because that what you lose if you don't pay up on time!!!
I think it should be law that after one on these ads, then a counter agrument should follow with how much you are going to conned by these people, and how you are going to be paying for this debt for most of your life.
Best of luck on this one.What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
hi andy,
i'm nowhere near london and have got the flu and am in bed, sorry! work's been a killer this week and pregnancy has triggered off daily migraines. sorry but i don't think i'd be much use to you. you're welcome to use anything i've written on the board though, let me know if you want any details (such as a name, unless you think jellyhead is sufficient lol!).52% tight0 -
Cartoon Network is another one that shows these ads. Another of my rants is that Sky :mad: charge for playing some of the games (premium rate numbers) which strange enough my 5 year old isn't aware of - fortunately he only ran up a 2 pound bill before I blocked the numbers0

Hi, Just thought I would let you know that as a result of this thread, I was contacted by a radio journalist who has interviewed myself and my son regarding these ads.( Not sure if it will be aired
) in the hope that it will bring all this to light and maybe get something done about it. I will also be complaining to the Advertising Standards Authority and suggest that as many people as possible, also complain.

i was watching tiny pop today at 3.45ish pm (yes with my children), the channel is aimed at pre schoolers I would say, sandwiched between a Bob the Builder song video & a Teletubbies dancing video, just 1 advert, dial4aloan now I think it was called, cartoon style, 2 little blobby shapes one looking sad the other blobby shape fishes a ball out with a net from lots of balls of a different colour, that makes sad blobby smile beacuse they have found the right loan for him/her/it. There were no other adverts between the 2 kids programmes.
& is that aimed at adults?

This is the first time I've left a message so I hope I'm doing it right...
You wanted to know about debt adverts on kids' TV, well , my two have left the telly on and gone upstairs to play with the other mind rot invention, the play station.
The channel is a satellite one, Cartoon Network.
In one commercial break there were the following adverts;
Direct Line Car Insurance, followed by, TML loans (releasing money by borrowing on your house), Churchill Car Insurance, followed by the one that's the best;
APS loans. the advert has been produced as a cartoon with miserable looking people looking out of their windows. The voiceover is spoken in rhyme!
This was on air approx. 12:30 during the half term hols.(wed).
Hope this helps towards your possible campaigne?0 -
that's definitely aimed at kids then :-(
i was at my sister's house this afternoon and one of the kids stayed downstairs watching the boomerang channel (like cartoon network but only seems to show scooby doo lol!). every ad break was as you described, just loans and car insurance. the girl watching it was quoting along to all the ads, singing the telephone numbers etc. - do they do it so when you're thinking about insurance etc. your kids sing a phone number at you and it saves you having to look through the phone book?52% tight0 -
I hate the ads but also get fed up of toy ads, dolls costing 49.00!!!! thats the price of a main pressie in my house not one doll!!
One ad ever showed you the argos number and what page to find it!!I wished upon a star tonight that I would see you once more,
To hold you in my arms and tell you how much I love you,
To hear your voice, to kiss your cheek oh for just one more time,
But all I have are memories and a heart full of love and tears.0
