  • hi guys i have been of work for 2 months and i also could not believe the amount of these adverts but it is not just on kids channels they are everywhere, is there not some moderator for adverts out there
everyone was going on about fastfood adverts being on kids channels and at times kids watch tv and they seem to have been thinned out of our/their viewing!
  • How about the Broadcasting Complaints Commission? Would they not be able to do something if we all got onto them?

If everyone feels strongly enough then what about a thread with a petition on it that we could all sign.

If even half the people who use this site put their names to a complaint to say Advertising Standards or whoever then surely they would have to respond?

They advertise on Cartoon Network daily. My 7 year old son was very concerned that we might have a debt problem and that we should phone Ocean Finance. He's even memorised the phone number!

What goes around comes around, the MD of Ocean Finance won £3 Million from a casino in Birmingham, according to the Daily Mail today he has already lost it back to them. I had a little chuckle when I read that one.

  • My partner and I have for a while been noticing more and more finacial companies advertising during kids tv adverts, we thought it was getting a bit too much when our 5 year old son asked us what a CCJ was! we were considering writing to watchdog about it and hopefully bring it to their attention , but hopefully if you start a campaign then something will be done.

We have noticed the Ocean Finance, purple loans and APS on most of the major cartoon channels on sky such as Jetix, toonami and nick jnr. Ithink the APS seems to be the worst due to its rhymes and cartoons which seem to attract his attention more.

I appreciate that we should check and sensor what our children are watching but although we can agree on his choice of cartoon it's the adverts in the middle thats the problem.

Hopefully something will be able to be done to stop these adverts all together or at least before the watershed.
  • I have had to explain what a CCJ is to my 8 year old daughter as a result of watching this adverts, I cannot understand why they are shown on childrens channels our kids do not need to know about CCJ's and debt busting!

i know people don't like junk food ads but the last one i saw was telling kids to drink more water or eat fruit, something like that. i'd much prefer that to the debt ones. i'd still like to get adverts banned in the middle of programmes, it would highlight how much rubbish we watch though, i bet the shows are only about 12 minutes long if you take out the adverts and the bits telling you to stay tuned, etc. - the rest of each 30 minute segment is just rubbish.

I am going to go ahead and launch a campaign on this. The provisional plan is a petition on here, plus I will write to all the childrens TV channels asking them to withdraw. If they don't I will attempt to launch a 'switch off' for a week in protest. Plus of course lots of publicity around it.

May i ask are any of those people who've listed examples of the impact on their children willing to speak to journalists about it - as case studies (dont worry they won't be nasty) its a way of showing the impact on kids? Can you let me know if you are?

  • Agree it is time they were stopped. I would go further though. Judging by all the good people who, since going to Ocean Finance, have found that they have "money left over!" I think there is a case for protecting vulnerable adults from these ads. I would suggest that Hayze1980 has it right, lets bombard the BCC

i agree, the 'go on holiday with the money left over' aspect of these ads is appalling. it becomes extra spending then rather than consolidation.
