Comet won't price match Richer Sounds

I have come into some Capital Bonds vouchers which obviously limits the places I can buy from. I am looking at a new TV which is £50.00 cheaper at Richer Sounds. According to Comet, they will price match any store with stock within 10 miles - however I was told they will NOT price match Richer Sounds. This sounds like a case for trading standards to me!

The Comet price promise also clearly states that if you find a product within 14 days of purchase they will refund the difference. If I was to buy from Comet would they have a leg to stand on if I went back the next day with the Richer Sounds price?


The exact wording from the Comet website reads:-

We're so confident our prices are unbeatable that we've come up with the Comet Price Guarantee.

I'd go back to them and ask for their reason why they won't match Richer Sounds and then get onto Comet customer services to complain if the store manager wont budge.

His first answer was that when you phone Richer they never have stock, to which I said that if I check stock first to confirm it would they match - the answer was still no.

have you checked richer soinds for stock?
going in knowing they have stock puts you in a position to argue your case

Do you think it might just be that particular Comet store, is there another nearby that you could try?

The Comet Price Guarantee is just another marketing scam. They make so many conditions that it is almost impossible to get them to price match, unless they know there is the margin to reduce their price or the difference is small.

When I was a student I tried quoting Dixons on their "if its a lower price elsewhere within 30 days we will refund the difference plus 10%" but they said they were not going to do this, instead they offered a full refund. The item in question ws a minidisk player (remember those?!) and it was around £50 difference at the time. I just took the refund and got an even cheaper model at Richer Sounds. Richer Sounds rule!

my parents were refused a price match on a vacuum cleaner for no good reason. Probably because they were exchanging a faulty one for a different make, so handicapped. I think Cometohell are bad news.

if you were making an exchange then the price match doesnt apply

be interested to see how this turns out- if comet will actually be price matching from now on rather then using "ifs" and "buts" all the time!
