was it a cookie tracker, or a virus, 2 different things. Cookies are little files that get stuck on your PC when you browse, third part tracking cookies (doubleclick etc..) are cookies that companies use to track your browsing habits, and not a security risk in themselves, just a way of companies collating information about you. I doubt very much that this was the source of your problem, and suggest you carry out all the other checks mentioned in browntoa's sticky, and the rest of this thread.

PS you can turn off TP tracking cookies by going into IE, tools, internet options, privacy, advanced, and tick block third part cookies, and OK.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

no cookies have no executable component, so are harmless.

It will either be malware (trojan, virus etc..), or a browser or O/S exploit.. or a clever joke.

what was the site, where you using IE? Does the other person know you?

    have you run windowsupdate yet?

I've checked that log and there are NO processes running there that should not be there so I would say that you are clean :)
