anyone had any experience of PCI freesat cards fitted in their computer?

and any recommendations and suggestions?

I have a Hauppauge WinTV which is USB, it works really well, I find being USB makes it very easy to swap between computers and all the bits and cables fit in a pocket.

That is for FreeVIEW not FreeSAT.

I have not come across any FreeSAT cards for computers, only FreeView cards. I have a digital tuner card which came already built in to the computer and works very well. The Windows Media Centre software controls it and allows recording of programmes and there is EPG also.

I have had some experience with the add-on USB plug in ones and find these to be a bit hit-and-miss regarding reception on indoor aerials.

Be aware that HD on FreeView will require a new generation of tuning devices that are not yet widely available in the UK (if at all) - all the existing tuners and television sets out there, including those for sale in shops, will not receive FreeView HD when it starts later this year. If HD is important to you, make sure that anything you buy is capable of receiving the new transmission format.

I have a Free to Air and Freeview card built in to my computer, I have never used either, I prefer to watch TV on a TV.

Note sure if there is a Freesat Card as such.

Googling FreeSat Cards only seems to throw up links to the Sky subscription cards that you need to access their services.

Hence my posting.

I have an analogue PCI TV card but it does not have drivers for windows 7 so I thought why not upgrade to freesat and have a freesat PVR on my computer.

What are the specifications for receiving freesat in the UK? I have found some cards but I am not sure if they would receive UK freesat.

Freesat is a digital service from a satellite, received through a dish. If you have a Sky dish, trained on the same satellite that Sky use, and a Freesat tuner you can receive Freesat transmissions and view them through a standard television receiver.

Unfortunately, if your card is analogue, you will not be able to use it to receive any digital television, either Freesat or Freeview.

If you have a digital card in your computer you will get Freeview (standard terrestrial digital) from a standard aerial but the card will not work with Freesat.

No personal experiance with using them, but loads of options out there, see the amavon reviews, they are normally helpful.

Hence the reason for my post. I am aware that I cannot get freesat with my current setup and I am also aware that I need a satellite dish, which I have, I also have Sky +. I also have an ordinary Sky box connected to a 14 in TV in my bedroom.

Please do not assume that I do not know what I need to receive FREESAT. I was asking for suggestions and recommendations for a FREESAT card to put in my computer not comments on the difference between systems for receiving different TV systems.

Please read the post carefully before replying, your reply comes across as if I am an idiot.

I never asked about receiving anything with my current setup I only mentioned it as a reason for me looking for a FREESAT card for my computer.

No wonder people give up with forums like that when you get answers that bear no relationship to the question

I don't think there are specific freesat pci cards but I have a skystar2 card in my pc fed from my motorized 1m dish. This will pick up all the freesat channels but not the epg.There are several other pci receivers available and you may be better off posting on a satellite forum for info rather than here. Hope this is useful.
