Hi All
I bought a £400 JVC Camcorder from Comet yesterday evening.
After having try out last night, I realised that the quality of the recording and playback was terrible, so I boxed it straight back up.
I went back to Comet with the unit for a refund today, as was told they wouldn't do it, as I had opened it. They even tested it and admitted that the quality of playback was terrible.
Even after testing it they refused to refund it, and when they thought it could be faulty they said I would have to wait while they sent it off to an engineer.
I'm so annoyed as i'm now stuck with a £400 unit that I can't use and they admit is rubbish....
I'm going to phone their head office tomorrow and see if I can get anything from them.
Anyone had any dealings with Comet head office, or got any advice ??
Thanks
S

Don't goods have to be of 'merchandisable quality' these days.
You could also complain to JVC about Comets rubbish service with their product, as after all it tarnishes JVC's reputation and their quality.
Also try Trading Standards, as Comet have admitted the item has a fault, they have sold faulty goods.0 -
I've been in touch with their head office, and they were about as useful as a Chocolate fireguard, they said that the store shouldn't have told us to call them as there was nothing we could do.
We're waiting for a call back from the Store Manager as he wasn't there yesterday.
I've been in touch with Trading Standards, and they don't have to return it, although if it is of low quality then we have some rights. They also have the right to get it inspected if we believe it's faulty.
I'm hoping that they eventually get fed up and give in, it can't be worth their time with the amount of times I'm gonna call them
It's so stupid, I will never use one of these High Street chains again.0 -
Sounds like yet again another Comet battle about to commence, you will have to stand firm with them, If the item is not of merchintable quality then you can request a refund, and dont be fobbed off by them saying otherwise. Did you buy it on a credit card? if so you could claim it back from them if Comet still cause problems. My advice would be to plonk it down on the desk on a saturday and stand there demanding in a loud voice that require a refund for the faulty goods they are selling and that you wont be fobbed off a 2nd time. Saturdays are a good day because they are busy and they dont like the fuss.
Just to add we have a JVC camcorder and the quality is excellent, so sounds like you have a duff one, and you don't have to accept a repair or replacement if it was only purchased a couple of days ago.0 -
I purchased an £179 Panasonic Camcorder from Comet last week and it's brilliant.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

They said they have no legal obligation to return it if it's opened and 'i've changed my mind', but they do if I can argue that it's bad quality.
They said the obligation is with them not the manufacturer....0 -
And surely as Comet have tested it and admitted its bad quality ....you should be entitled to a refund pronto?0

Comet are renound for this type of nonsense, you just have to stick to your guns and don't budge. Do a forum search and you will see you are not alone with this type of reply from Comet.0
