Going to see our first venue!

:j I'm sooooooooo excited!

My fiance and I are going to see a possible venue on Saturday, it will be our first one. I've been emailing a fair few this week and haven't been impressed with the fact that not many are replying to my emails! I decided I'd email as because we are having a very small ceremony and breakfast I wanted to just do a general enquiry with the venues about whether they could accomodate small parties or not before I go to them and fall in love to then be told there is a minimum of 30 gues or whatever as we only want 16.

Anyway.... I'm rambling sorry. What I wanted to ask is, is there any questions I should ask the venue apart from prices, whats included and whether they can do what we want them to do etc etc? Anything that I might not think of?

Thank you :)

We live in on the Derby/Notts Border but OH is orginally from Staffordshire (near Lichfield) so we are looking into venues in all three areas.

I would just say, that if you ask for something in particular (thats not unreasonable) and they say no, then best to look elsewhere.

I hate it when venues have the "our way or no way" attitude, its my wedding day, i'll have what I want.

Also, with having such small numbers, look at smaller hotels & guesthouses that you wouldnt normally think of as a wedding venue. There are alot of pretty places about that can cope with smaller numbers. My dream venue couldnt fit all my guests in :(

  • Angel, a few words of advice it thats ok.

Check out your venues on hotel review sites as well eg Laterooms, tripadvisor etc as they give a good idea of service too. I could name quite a few regs on here who would have liked this advice when they first started looking as it could have saved them their sanity.

Also, go with your gut instinct about the wedding advisor, if they are rubbish when they havent even sold you the venue yet (and there will be plenty you see like this) then they are just going to get worse when you have booked. I took the same tact you did when I started looking and basically got ignored by many venues, these were immediatley struck off the potential list. Even the ones that took over a week to come back to me were discounted too.

    hope this helps

Alot of peopl onlty take minamum numbers like our venue wouls only take a minimum of 110 on a weekend and 100 during the week as we were paying for exclusiveness (ie only ones there on the day). just make sure you ask if there is min number amount

  • Hi Angel,

I can understand your excitement!! Me and my OH are looking at our first venue next weekend... we're off to Bristol Zoo :) We're marrying in Uley church but want the zoo for our reception. Really looking forward to it because it does make it more real... we're marrying in May 2012, I can hardly contain myself!! Good luck on the weekend, I hope you like it, it looks lovely.
