If you live near a beauty/salon supply shop, you can buy the wax chips that salons use, and it works out much less expensive than buying it in Boots. I get mine from the Sally Beauty store in London (http://www.sallybeauty.com/mapquest_uk/inter_locator.asp) where you can also buy huge gallon bottles of designer shampoo for at a good discount!

Are they open to the public

I thought my local one was trade only????

Well, on my legs where I'm used to waxing, it hurt like hell, but was bearable for the result... underarms... imagine a grown woman, with tears dripping down her face, and gritted teeth with one underarm done and one left to do trying to find the will to carry on. I did, the results were incredible. It seems to last twice as long as a salon wax. The first time is agony, but every time after gets easier... so much so I can do the bikini line now. Wouldn't use it on the face, I tried once but got a rash.

LOL now Im opposite - I can cope with the bikini line but NO WAY could I ever cope with under arms and tried it on legs once but couldnt stand it. Suppose its different for everybody :p

    Ark,

The one in Newtownards is open to the public, it's on High Street, check it out the next time you're down this way. There's also one in Linenhall St, Ballymena.

Epilating - I do it after a bath and on my legs it was sore the first time but gets much less painful the more you do it. Mine came with a little cooling thing you stick in the freezer which can dull the pain, but I never use it now.

I tried my underarms and it HURT like nobody's business but it lasted ages, much better than a wax - I'm just working up the gumption to do it again and hoping it will get easier with time.

I haven't braved the bikini line yet!

attempt that with care... the warning for that should be something along the lines of not getting any fleshy bits trapped in the rollers :o

I am a fan of waxing ,a little tip for first time waxers , only cover an area as big as a postage stamp place over waxing strip ,pull off against the growth ,doing a little bit at a time gets you used to the sensation rather than a large strip in one go .I wax mum 83(top lip) dd14 (legs uarm top lip) me (legs u/arms).I always use an after wax cream like e45 to sooth it down, but we have no problem with it done it for years.

I use an epilator as I can have a quick 'whizz over' whenever i think i need it. The only thing i found was the backs of my thighs were blinking sensitive the first few times ( put it this way my kids heard a LOT of bad language) but now i think i might brave my u/arms.
I also do my bikini line with epilator and it does make a huge difference, as there are no sticky bits unlike home waxing.

buy a braun epilator on amazon for £25 and pay nothing ever again. results are better than waxing as you can use it whenever you want, rather than waiting for all your hairs to grow through a little.
I agree. Best thing I ever did, getting an epilator, as I can't use chemical creams, and the razor never seemed to do a proper job.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
