And very nice it is too, I've had a play with one today, best android handset I've seen and a good alternative to the iPhone

Is it true that Sony have stuffed the Android OS so much that it can only support 1.6?

It'll be launching with 1.6 on it however they plan to update it to the latest version later in the year

  • I spoke to a sales person at Orange last week who said they'd received literature that it would now be released the last two weeks in April (moved from end of March, to beginning of April to end of April so read into that what u will).

It does look like a very good phone., and the Android OS seems to be fairly well tested by now. I don't think it has a rival for those of us that want a 'gadget zone' phone but also one not built just for the teen/twenties 'gotta tell everyone how smart and blingy I am' market lol (

It should launch around mid April, maybe sooner. I was really impressed with the look and feel of the handset, the build quality seemed good, highly recommended

Take with a pinch of salt.

My X1 was hyped as to be upgraded by SE from WM 6.1 to WM 6.5 when the X2 came out. Then SE decided not to bother wih the upgrade and left them on WM 6.1

Sure I can upgrade it via the XDA developers site, but don't believe SE when they say they will update it. Best advice is get something current on Android 2 or 2.1 and assume you'll never get upgrades.
  • Sometimes u wonder how these companies stay in business. My mail to Sony Ericsson UK asking them directly when the phone would be released and that I have been told Late April by Orange received the following reply:

    Dear Unknown,

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.

We thank you for showing an interest in the Sony Ericsson X10.

The handset is due for release in quarter 1 of 2010 with is between January and March.

Unfortunately at the moment we are unsure on which networks will be releasing the handset.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

    Kind Regards,

    Suzanne Middleton
    Sony Ericsson UK Customer Services

They really do need to teach the servers that send out scripted replies to tell what date it is (i.e. its already half way thru March so something's going wrong somewhere even by their own reckoning).

Perhaps I'd better start looking at another mobile phone if this is all SE are capable of.
