Ikea Malm Bed question

Hi
I quite like the look of this bed frame and the price is quite reasonable. However the mattresses that Ikea sell are a bit out of my price range.
Does anyone know if a mattress from another store will fit the malm range or do ikea make them so that you have to buy the whole lot of them?
Im considering the super king size which I think takes a 6ft x 6ft 6" mattress. When I was looking online for a cheaper mattress the super king size ones where shown as 6ft x 6 ft!
Any advice on a cheap mattress would also be welcomed!!

All Ikea beds are metric, which in practice makes them a bit bigger than the equivalent UK Imperial bed sizes.
It also means you probably need their bedding as well.
I suggest before you go for an alternative mattress to the Ikea offering you carefully check the appropriate dimensions. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks both - I think Ill avoid ikea altogether then!ee bye gum0

A British matress will be slightly smaller than an Ikea bed. Once you have put the duvet on only you (and all of us) will know.0

but won't the mattress move around as its not the right size? 6 inches short to be precise!ee bye gum0

Have a look on the Ikea site:
Malm Bedframe 180*200 £120
Sultan Liared slatted base 2 off 90*200 £20
Sultan Hogbo spring matress 180*200 £140
Total : £ 280That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Check the Bargain Corner for mattresses.
My local Ikea had 2 there today.Didn't look at the prices but things can be substantially cheaper for just a mark or a slight tear that could be patched.A greedy man's bag is never full0 -

I always pop into bargain corner first, its near the hot dogs in the Nottingham store (no connection of course!).
Don't accept the sticker price in bargain corner, you should be able to get a bit more off, thats if you can find someone. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
We have an Ikea king-size bed and it was supplied with 2 single mattresses which zipped into a huge outer cover. The cover disguises any join between the two and acts as a mattress protector, too.
We have 3 Ikea single beds and use normal UK mattresses - the 6" gap isn't really noticable under the bottom of a duvet and there is no discernable movement!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
The ikea beds are generally great, but you will find there is a small gap around them with a normal mattress.
As everyone says it doesnt really show, I actually had a row of cushions in the gap at the top...
... the trouble is that I kep whacking my legs on the bed becuase it appears smaller than it is! So i ended up getting an ikea mattress to avoid that.
Just a thought!0
