I was nonplussed when I tried to get flowers sent by Interflora to a village in Yorkshire and was told that it couldn't be done because the local florist had retired.

I ended up using Marks and Spencer.

I use M&S or I use yell.com to find the number of a local florist to order flowers direct currently. Interflora do take a lot of the money, so even if it's using the same local florist I've found you get better flowers if you deal with the florist direct.

I have also used for cheaper flowers the generic jersey/guernsey flowers with the flowers delivered by post and had no problems.

When my FIL died and the funeral was xmas/new year, we phoned a florist via yell.com, they didn't take credit cards, but they still came up with the flowers despite knowing the cheque might not arrive through the post in time, and also that they'd never dealt with us before.

There are some really nice people around.

We did make the cheque out for more than the amount they'd asked for.

P.S. With being a local florist they also said they'd check with the funeral parlour to check the details first, to make sure everything arrived on time.
