Refused a bank account

Can a bank refuse you a bank account with no apparant reason. No defaults, no CCJ's, Sound credit scores, No CIFAS, Just plain old internal scoring despite having a bank account with the same bank for many years?

What is the recourse for such a stance? Can I go to court over this?

Yes they can refuse. No you can't go to court.
  • Why Not. This seems unfair if they might be basing thier decision on something that is not accurate or true. Every refusal should be supported with a justifiable reason

A business can choose to (or not) do business with whoever they want without giving a reason.

Why not ask the bank why you were refused an account?
  • Already done that, they say that I failed thier internal scoring. Strange really when until they closed my account I was a premiar customer of 25 years.

Why not try another bank? Any reason why you want to stay with Barclays?
  • I must be mad actually to want to be a part of such a poorly organised and unfair establishment who can tret people like dirt.
  • I meant to say treat!
  • I would imagine that they would be happy to do business with me if I owed them a few bob. The fact is I have always managed my funding so as to avoid having to go cap in hand to those who charge extortianate rates of interest

lol you can not sue a bank for not wanting to do 'business' with you.

I wouldnm't want to live in such a state if they allowed that.

This isn't America where everyone sues for being burned by a cup of coffee at their local starbucks lol.

Try another bank there are loads. Everything happens for a reason, good or bad.

  • I think that its a little more serious than that when your Direct Debits dont get paid and you loose your varous contracts as a result of contract breaches for no payment.
