Dodgy MOT
One of my tyres was wearing on the inner so i took it to be checked out today. Turns out that one of my front tyres was below the legal limit and other was very close to it. Mot was done in January, surely that should have been picked up then. Also the cv boot was damaged and held on with an improper clip. The garage that did my tyres said the car should have failed its mot on this. Where do i stand,i dont know if this is correct about it should have been failed and what worries me is the fact something else might have been overlooked. Do i have another mot, is the above enough to complain about it.

The mot only means it was road legal on the day of the test. Its up to the owner to get things like tyres brakes etc checked periodically0

It is the drivers responsibility to ensure the car has legal tyres. It is quite possible a tyre that passed the mot in January is now illegal.
The cv boot, as long as it wasnt burst and grease covering everything should have passed as well. I dont think the MOT goes into correct fastnings for cv boots. The old kits used to come with cable ties.
Avoid this tyre place at all costs, dont waste a good relationship with your MOT place over nothing.0 -
previous mots have given advisory notices about tyre tread.
Cv boot, grease was covering everything the clip wasnt even holding it in place properly.0 -
Have you curbed it recently? Or gone down any large potholes?0

But was the grease everywhere in January? I very much doubt it.
Was the place you went to for the tyres a fast fit place?
I'm VERY surprised a mechanic that knows what he's doing would allege a cv joint had been like that since January. Unless trying to discredit a competitor.0 -

Take your car back to the MOT garage, pay them the MOT fee and tell them to retest it and that you want them to fail it this time.

also be aware many places will try and drum up buisness ..fair enough if the tyres are bald
whats this about incorrect clip though ? some places are happy to lie or pull bits off to make extra work
what did you expect the mot guy to do ...your car has failed because the tyres will be bald in 2 months time ?0 -

Some thing has changed in the MOT rules, where a replacement gaitor once came with a nylon tywrap they now supply a metal OE type strap, they are now considered by some if not all MOT stations to be inadequate, they seem to differ in opinion about this, as I've had issues with it.
Back to the OP, the MOT was 2 months ago, you can easily rag a set of tyres in that time so point in pressing whatsoever. Surely you now if they were legal when you took it in. You're actuall suggesting that you did take it in with a bald tyre
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
In your original post you said the tyre was wearing on the inside, that suggests bad tracking or incorrect infaltion. either one of those could easily destroy a tyre in 2 months. I would get your alignment checked.0
