No, but dozens of other providers do. Just Google it.

But with broadband as cheap as £5.99pm, wouldn't that be better for her?

  • Surely she would be better off with a very basic broadband package? My grandparents are Internet novices but having broadband means they don't get fed up when waiting for pages to load. Dial up would be such a turn-off in this day and age.

An alternative....make sure they send you the correct model. The new version puts a time limitation of thirty days usage per top up. The version advertised does not. Just use it occasionally to keep it alive.

I used BT dialup for a few years: it was not too bad at first, but it became so slow it was unusable.

I now have prepaid 3 dongles. Mobile Broadband can be compared to very fast dialup and is fine for light users. If you have 3 network coverage in the area, this would be good to start with.

Thanks for all your suggestions, they can't have a dongle we're in the middle of nowhere so rubbish coverage boooooo. It looks like now you have to pre-pay, rather than when it just went on your bt bill. is that right ?

It's not pre-pay. It's either PAYG (call costs are added to your BT bill and BT take a cut) or unmetered, whereby you pay a fixed monthly sub.
Please refer to link given in my earlier post.
But dial up really is not worth it these days.

i lost my net a little while ago when some builders went though a cable in a tunnel in london, so i got out my trust and dusty modem, but being realistic with all the graphics and flash etc that modern websites have it was near useless
  • I agree about dialup being almost useless now: even mobile broadband has been affected. In 2008, 1gb per month was ample, but I have noticed that my allowance does not last so long because of all the moving ads etc.

By the way, has the OP checked the 3 network coverage recently? Someone on MSE reported using a dongle in a caravan in a remote area without any problems.

BT do still do it, here. But it's expensive, in my opinion. Especially so because of connection charges.
