First Time Learner Car - With Power Steering, Any ideas what to buy?

The felicia was the first car to come out after VW bought Skoda, i.e. the first good skoda!
The Felicia wasn't too bad at all, being developed from the Favorit. The old Estelle was OK if you got a good one, very light steering, fairly nippy, comfy seats, and around 35mpg although the handling would catch out todays boy racers, especially a tuned Rapid, as the car exhibited it's Porsche 911 tendencies on the limit. Certainly better than a Lada.0 -
The Mk2 Favorit also benefited from VW buying them in 1994. Rear drum brakes came off a Polo, the fuel injection system had some VW involvement, I believe the air box came from a Polo too. http://www.an1.co.uk/skodaladaproton/The felicia was the first car to come out after VW bought Skoda, i.e. the first good skoda!
The Felicia was based on the Favorit which was an all skoda design. The first car based on a VW-platform car was the Octavia (some mistakenly believe the Felicia is based on the Polo).0 -
As the budget is £600 I would be looking for condition and not worrying about which model it is.0

hyundai accidents
ford fiesta
ford ka
vauxhall corsa
some had power steering some didnt check the ads it should say PAS oh and dont forget haggle for 12months mot0 -
At that kind of money its best to browse the local papers and see what crops up. Buy on condition of the vehicle rather than setting sights on one particular make and model.Cover me in honey and fling me to the hermaphrodites!0

i'd say the skoda felicia cheap tax/insurance for first car even for young drivers!!! heres a GUIDE of what your 600 budget could get you. (you dont have to buy off ebay). look and hunt free ads and garages!

Morning all
Thanks you all for the good advice
Yep, I agree about not just singling down to models. But i am going to look at the Felicia's as suggested and seat ibiza, fiestas as once she passes she can keep the car for a year or two to get her experience up. It will be better to look for one with PAS as it will be easier to sell in the future too

Nissan Micra? I'm biased as I have one and love it, I have a T reg 1.3l Inspiration which came with PAS, although I believe not all Micras did. I paid £650 for mine last year.
I agree the Felicia would be a good buy though, I drove one around 1998 or 1999 when it was new and thought it was fantastic.0 -
Hi
We were looking at Nissan Micra's too
My good friend has had one for 3 years and my partners sister has one too (which she is trying to sell!!) but both of them dont have PAS and they both advised the steering is heavy without it"One Man Can Make A difference" Michael Knight KNIGHTRIDER0 -
I'm surprised it's heavy without PAS really, I wouldn't have thought it could weigh that much.
Incidentally my dad has had two mk1 Puntos, both 1.2L. Neither had PAS. The first one had very light steering, it was a great little car and very easy to park. The second had much heavier steering despite being the exact same model, just a year or two newer. We also had one briefly, an M reg and also 1.2L, and it was like driving a tank. I once got stuck in a parking space because I couldn't steer the thing quickly enough to get around the car beside me without hitting it, and I used to get terrible aches in my shoulders after driving it. So perhaps it varies from car to car - it's worth test driving a car without PAS to see how it actually feels to drive.0
