Barclays Bank, smacked my hand

  • Well the bank manger was brilliant, but I still don't have internet banking.
Funny that the bank manager did not know anything about the policy,( I believe their is no policy). We was given good advice, with all the new booklets when you open account, their is noting about bankruptcy . I was shown that Barclays have a page about debit account, showing that Internet/telephone would be withdrawn. This page was updated in February 2010,not sure why it was!!!!!!
Next step bank omnibus and make a complaint, forgot to mention that the bank logged our complaint as unresolved.
I will also ring my union and speak to their legal team.
I will post more news as soon as I can

True, I did not mean that as a defence, just that at least they will allow us BR`s to bank with them while a lot of the others will not.

  • My feelings are that they know we won't be able to do any business with us,like having loans, credit cards etc, etc. So they can't make any profit from having our custom, so why let us use their perks, like internet/telephone banking.

    That's what I think

It really can't be 'company policy' as I opened a current acc and instant access savings acc with Barclays the day after I was made bankrupt. Initially I was told no internet banking, however, the next working day I had a phone call from the chap that I dealt with who confirmed I could have internet banking etc and set it all up.
In fact my account is every bit the same as any other account I have ever had, with the exception of the overdraft obviously. Visa debit card looks exactly the same as my boyfriends card with them.
  • The reason why I am mad/upset, is we spoke last year, and told them we was going bankrupt this year, and asked what account we could have, and would it have Internet facility, it was confirmed that we would. Otherwise I would of gone to the Coop.

Glad to hear your not going to just accept this. It seems such a silly and counterproductive policy. Surely if there was any increased risk (to the banks) from giving you or any BR online or phone banking then its would be clearly stipulated somewhere when you apply and also the likes of the Coop wouldn't offer it either. It also doesn't make sense from a cost perspective. The banks actually want people to use online banking as it save them money, so not only do they not make any money on BR customers, but this policy is actually making BR customers effectivaely more expensive customers to service.
