24 Month Contract....I Know I Know

I took out a 24 month contract with O2 and got the pink C905 a year ago this month. I pay £25 a month for it. I get like 600 message and 300 mins or something like that.
Here's the problem. I dropped my phone down the loo. Well half fell in, the top half meaning the Camera doesn't work, and the phone runs reeeeeeeally slowly. Oh and the loud speaker doesn't work.
Luckily I can get all my contacts and photos off of it.
I still have a year left on the phone and I don't know what to do. Ring O2 and cancel the contract and pay whatever there is left to pay, or just keep using my 5 year old samsung flip phone and keep paying the £25 a month for another year.
How much would it be if I cancelled it? Also are there any places you can send your phone off to to see if they can repair it? My town doesn't have any phone repair shops at all. I went into O2 and they said as I didn't purchase it from them (carphonewarehouse) they couldn't send it off for me.

£25 x 12 = £300 (might get a small discount to pay off early)
Sometimes phones can dry and come back to some sort of life. Best thing to see if that happens in a 2 or 3 weeks - if not sell it as broken on ebay or one of the sell a mobile sites (wont get much).
Not worth paying of contract - just use the other phone for the service at least.
Carphonewarehouse should be able to look at it if you take it instore, it might be just the screen that needs replacing (if you are lucky). The speaker - think there is a known problem with the phone having problems with its wiring but not much good if you dropped it in loo - that too could be fixed I think.
PS if you look HERE you can get a replacement screen yourself from ebay for a tenner.
Sony phones are easy for replacing screens.0 -
I dropped my phone in the bath last year and it wouldn't work at all.
Someone told me to put in a bag of dry rice in a warm place (i put it in the airing cupboard) and leave for a few days.
It worked, have had no probs with it since.
I might've just been lucky but its worth a try?0 -
Thanks Vicky, I'll try that.
The phone has been off for like 2 weeks now anyway. I'm just wondering whether to take it apart and see if I can see anything obvious (kinda techie like that)

I just checked my paperwork and it's with Dialaphone not carphone. And it's dated 25th March. Is it worth contacting them, saying somethings wrong and seeinging if they'll fix it under warenty? What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

Dialaphone will send it off to sony I suspect - there are stickers which indicate water damage and internally they will know its been soaked.
Thinking of it - I would flog a phone thats been in the loorather than use it.

if you dont like your other phone why not sell off your broken one on ebay (list as broken obviously) and use the cash to get a cheapish - but nice looking PAYG phone and stick the contract sim in?0

How do I go about lowering my monthly payments then? I have unlimited text and 600 mins (what it says on my bit of paper) and I barely use 200 texts and like 30 mins. Seems a waste of money to me.What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0

If it's not covered then you can't make things much worse. Take it apart as far as you are happy to get it back together again.
Blow out any dust.
If there's any moisture then dry it with a hairdryer.
If there's any rust then try cleaning it with coca-cola (phosphoric (sp?) acid) on a cotton bud. Clean the coke off it afterwards with water on a cotton bud and dry with hairdryer.0 -
You can phone o2 - not sure when in a 24 month contract but with 18 months you can downgrade the tariff (after 9 months into contract) by one level per month (i.e. £25 to £20). Don't think you can go lower than that with o2's lowest monthly tariff being £20 I think now or is it £15?
Also if you phone o2 and tell them the story and ask nicely about refurbished handsets, they can give you a decent enough replacement for anything between £60 to £99 (at least I was once offered that).0 -
Thanks everyone. What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0
