I came home earlier this morning after trying to settle nicky for hours...at one point she walked out of the ward telling me she just cant do it anymore..she wouldnt go near him or touch him at all..I stayed to calm the both of them till they fell asleep....I feel so helpless with it all & dont know where to turn I came home & cried buckets myself didnt want anyone to see how i'm falling to bits...just want them both home SOON then I can care for her make sure she's not waiting hours for feeds & over 3hrs for pain killers

I'm sorry Phil, thought things would improve.... you waffle away.....this isn't right. Nicky doesn't need this, her hormones all over the place and nurses treating her like this......well I can't put what I think!!!!!

Phil (tell me to mind my own business....) but do either of you have any other family who you can rope in and do some sort of shifts at the hospital to help out for a few days?? If someone can just sit and keep Nikki company and help out with stuff like feeding etc and just general support. No wonder his sugars are all over the place if she is waiting 3hrs longer than necessary!

Motherhood the first time round is a hell of a shock to the system and when you/baby are a spot poorly to go with it then its horrible. I think that most midwives have "seen it all before" and loose that humanity that made them want to be MWs in the first place.

I just want to give her a big hug! Baby blues is normal, tell her that. Almost every single Mum on that ward will be feeling something like that; those feelings of inadequacy or just wanting to leave. It doesn't normally last very long. Although I love my children very much, after spending a long time in pain trying to squeeze these things out, there was not the imense love rush that you would expect, it did take a few days. It's odd to describe. I didn't hate or dislike these babies but I could have left them in the hospital. When I looked at them I felt "aww a beautiful baby" but it was a little while before I could look and think it was "my baby". If you think it's more than just baby blues, then you need to seek some help quickly for her.

Hi Phil,

I know its frustrating but be strong Sweetheart....you need to hold it together for Nicky & Evan....I agree with Sky that Nicky will be starting to feel the strain even more with all the hassle....hormones are awful after baby arrives & no one can explain how it makes you feel but it seems to make everything 10x worse.

Sending you all big <<hugs>> & its great news that mum & baby are together now. You will soon all be home & can start being a proper family....hold onto that thought.

Hi Phil
On top of what Sky and Angie have said, don't forget that Nicky has also had a GA - that takes while to work its way out of your system so won't be helping either. She had a very long labour which has probably left her exhausted as well and, because she hasn't been able to cuddle/hold Evan very much, the bonding process has been delayed.
Hang on and try to stay strong for them, and rant away when you come on here - you can let off steam to us, we'll all listen.
