Can I freeze houmous

Have just made a ridiculous amount of houmous, considering there's only 4 of us, didn't quite realise just how far one tin of chick peas could go!
Was therefore thinking about freezing it in a couple of tubs / ice cube trays ... has anyone frozen houmous before and what were the results? It will take me at least five weeks to eat the amount I made, by which time I will have to throw out the rest of the jar of tahini paste, so I need to make even more houmous more before the tahini paste needs binning!
Advice gratefully received!!!That's Numberwang!0 -
I freeze shop bought (reduced) hoummous all the time and its fine. Just thaw it out in the fridge the night before you need it.There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0

No no no you can't freeze it, it would be very bad... just gather up all your extra hoummous and send it to me
*tummy grumbles*

I wouldn't worry too much about the tahini going bad, we've had this stuff in the cupboard for months after opening. It might dry a bit but then all you do is thin the amount you need with some water (but don't let water get into the tahini jar)0

I have made hummous for ages and always use peanut butter instead of tahini - just as delicious and no problems about what to do with the tahini.
And it's even cheaper to make if you buy the chick peas in their original dried form rather than the can. One 500g bag will make me a month's worth of hummous.0 -
Frozen houmous separates when thawed but give in a good stir and it's fine.0

Hi patchwork cat,
Yes you can. We have an older thread on this with some tips so I've merged your thread with it.

I've frozen it and it defrosted fine! I'm making some tomorrow, and will be freezing half.
