mine was simular to a large grape hehe!
Oh and they give you tea and biscuits afterwards :T LOL
you will be fine😁0 -
All I can remember was the picture they had on the ceiling to keep your attention whilst you lie there with legs wide

The thing that amazed me was the number of appointments that weren't kept judging by the notice they had on the wall in the waiting room. I must have been there once late in the month and it was up at 176 people.
The drs and nurses are ace and keep you talking, amused throughout.
Don't worry about it and good luck

i was lucky to have a very nice consultant with a wicked sense of humor who likened it to zapping aliens as in space invaders - really put me at ease.
try not to worry too much i know its hard i still dread every smear (I have a wonky cervix) but getting it sorted is the main thing
I have one of these cervixes too! And absolutely detest smear tests, they are painful and horrid...*sigh*
Can't imagine having one of these colposcopies
Your consultant sounded lovely - just the sort of person I'd need...:wall:0 -
I had one done a few weeks ago.It was a little uncomfortable but didnt hurt. What was slightly more uncomfortable was the 2 biopsies i had done at the same time.
I had really bad cramps for a few days after and thank god got results back and all is ok."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0 -
this reminds me of a funny incident that occurred when i once had colposcopy.
i was asked be the consultant if i minded that he had a student with him (a qualified doctor) that he was training at the university hospital i was attending, obviously i said no i didnt mind as the doctor was specialising in gynaecology.
when i was all strapped up ready to go 4 doctors walked into the room and observed the procedure!!! to top it all they were videoing it i noticed later!!
i didnt notice or feel the treatment at the time i was more nervous about these people staring up my fluff.Give blood - its free0 -
Looks like we could start our own club! It's not the nicest thing to have but well worth it if the cells look dodgy. I've had about 3 now and am very lucky that my doctor is very nice. He too has a great sense of humor. Let us know how you get on and try not to worry. Hopefully it will help sort out your problems xSell 100 Items Challenge 51/100 £402...:T0

Hiya.
First of all, try not to worry. This is very very common. I have had 2 colposcopies that I remember. I have cell erosion on my cervix as well as (at the time) having carcinoma in situ. I found the first one unbearably painful. But the doctor was extremely unprofessional and I believe he was struck off not long after. The kind of ordeal I went through doesn't happen any more fortunately.
The next time I had one I got the kindest doctor imaginable. He numbed the area and let me watch the whole thing on the monitor with him. He described what he was doing and why and what everything was. I didn't feel a thing and was so relaxed the whole time. I wrote to him to thank him. I had no pain or discomfort afterwards although I had had the exact same procedure done.
It was worth it all. It was over 14 years ago and I have been fine since. Chin up girl. You'll be fine.
The best of luck to you.
Edit: I had my surgery under general so I can't tell you what that was like as I was sound asleep!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I had one about ten years ago - he used this thing to take the sample that looked like a long fork you use for stabbing pickled onions!!! I was asked if I wanted to watch on the screen too - I def didn't. I got coffee and biscuits too. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it woulf be - I only remember light bleeding for a couple of days. Good luck0

How old are you? I was 18 when i had mine. It didn't feel painful, just uncomfortable. It was quite similar to haveing a smear, just took longer. Being that young, i found it all a bit embarassing and cried after it so I reccomend taking a friend. The nurses were lovely and kept talking to me whilst holding open my legs- sounds dreadful! They didn't warn me about the TV screen and i think that made it a bit traumatic.
You will be fine. The positives outweigh the negatives.0 -
I have backwards facing cervix too. I dread smears (which reminds me I'm over due for one at the mo:() and found colposcopy quite (very) painful. I have to have a smear every year now for the next 4 years.
When have you got to have it done?0
