What Razkazz is getting at is that having their Taxi off the road costs taxi drivers a huge amount of money as they cannot work. In the Taxi Insurance market there are a lot of very cheap and not cheerful Insurers including Tradex and Westminster as he mentioned. They are renowned for poor service and trying their best not to pay claims and coincidently they would show up as cheapest if there was a comparison site for taxi insurance.

I've handled plenty of taxi insurance and often take on customers who have had a claim with a cheap and cheerful company and their cabs have been off the road for literally a month longer than needed, so the savings they made on buying the insurance are lost many times over by their loss of earnings.

A policy with a proper Insurer may (or may not) be a bit more expensive but they generally have approved repairer networks so if an accident happens the repairer picks the taxi up, gets approval for the work and starts work at the earliest possible chance.

With reference to Leeuk's post that most avoid claiming, it's not always possible to avoid claiming as taxi drivers do huge mileages so are more likely to be involved in accidents. These can often be their fault so they have no option but to claim.

So to summarise as the vehicle is the tool of their trade, it is wise to put a bit of thought into the purchase of insurance as buying the wrong policy could potentially be a very expensive mistake.

P.S OP why not ask some of your fellow taxi drivers for recommendations and pay particular attention to any of them who have had a claim and take note of their recommendations

" Cheap " usually means very poor service, hidden charges, things like glass cover not fully covered etc. etc.

Insurance is a service product, not a tin of beans.

I mean the cheapest with all the required options. Not the cheapest that doesn't cover anything.
