If you want a proper comparison including EbiCo go to energyhelpline.com.
EbiCo are by far the cheapest supplier around for both gas and electric and more so if you pay via a prepayment meter. They are a not for profit organisation which means that they will always be cheaper than the others because they have no shareholders demanding dividends.
Martin does make a very good point about waiting to see what all the other suppliers will do but Sept 1st is only 6 weeks away and it takes that long to switch your supply!!!
Hope this gives people another option to investigate!!!!
I'm with London Energy Online. Even with the recently announced price rise I am still cheaper than Ebico by about £130pa. Plus Ebico may well put up their price in September as they usually do.
How can you say that they are by far the cheapest supplier around?
I don't think there is one "cheapest for all" solution, It depends on you area and consumption.0 -
i'm still amazed that these companies can hold us to ransom like this. I too am a BG customer (for both my gas and elecie) and now like many others i'm left wondering where the hell am i going to find the extra "quote" £10 - 12 a month? "unquote"
How can they be allowed to do this to us?
Why dont the goverment or Senior Body take a stand and minimalise these prices increases?
Or allow our wages to go up at the rate of the rises (at least this would balance the scales)
Maybe we should all refuse to pay!

The answer is simple.

Why don't we have a power free day? Other than 'essential' fridges and freezers, we switch off everything else for 24 hours.

To be honest it's a bit difficult to work out but I did another comparison with energyhelpline and then clicked on "Your tariff details".
I then phoned CS and asked for details. After quoting me their standard prices, I think we eventually found the online prices as she finally quoted me what energyhelpline were saying for "Your tariff details". If it is correct it's more than the 19% and 9.1% quoted.
I don't think I'll be sure until I get my next bill whcih isn't due till early September.
However it still works out cheapest.0 -
Very welcome advice from Martin to sit tight. I was dreading making a switch - the first and only time I did it was a real pain. It took too long, my existing provider took ages to repay direct debit surplus, my new lot didn't charge me for the electricity for months and then I had a deficit and had to increase direct debit and then thier price went up as they played catch up with the rest. The so called market is nonsense - confusing tariffs and switch advisers that are in it for the money too. Add in the time spent trying to research all this and I hanker back to the days of nationalised industries (which I can just remember paying for!) when there was no incentive for providers to sell more eneergy to make profits and if there were any excess profits they would help fund public services (OK, they may not have been efficiently run but at least there was some democratic accountability). Still, at least I will feel better ditching my current lot when the time is right.0

have to say bg are always slated the most when edf increased there prices by 19% whilst centrica did make a very large profit british gas residential supplies actually made a loss and british gas buisness profits were down 80% yes i agree the price rises are large but people are too eager to slate bg when its competitors increase their prices often a lot higher(take edf)and yes i do work for bg0
