should i be worried to get a ebay strike? please help me

i recently bid for a iphone on ebay which i now regret doing as the seller has no feedback and the email address was not verified on paypal. I sent messages to the seller saying that i do not want the item anymore and that i cancelled payment on the item. The money has gone back in my account and i now have received this message from the seller: Hi, you have 100% feedback and i can open a non-paying bidder dispute from today. You can't cancel a bid after you've won an auction, as you well know. If you'd just waited until i got home, i would have added my email address to my paypal account and all would have been well. If you don't pay, I will lose over £20 in ebay fees. For that reason, I will push ebay for a non-payer strike and I will leave bad feedback.I am prepared to accept £175 just to avoid the hassle of relisting and to avoid a case being opened. Payment should be made to ml22334@googlemail.com via the send money tab and the ebay auction ID should be included. If i don't get at least a reply (i'd prefer payment) by tonight, i'll open a dispute. I hope you accept the gesture of good will and we can resolve this amicably.

What should i do? thanks

Do not respond to the sender if this message requests that you complete the transaction outside of eBay. This type of offer is against eBay policy, may be fraudulent, and is not covered by buyer protection programs.
I have just seen this above the message the seller sent. should i be worried?

In brief - you risk a strike if you don't pay. Whether you pay is up to you.
If you do pay, make sure you link the payment with the item number.

he wont lose fees if you mutually agree to cancel. He cant give you a neg so your 100% feedback will remain intact and most sellers will limit to people with 2 or more npb strikes so this shouldn't effect your future bidding.

At the end of the day its your money and while he is technically correct that "you bid, you pay" if it looks in any way dodgy then it's your right to protect your money.

I'm also pretty sure (soolin or someone more skilled in this area will confirm) but if you pay via the send money tab you will not be protected as well as you would if you paid via ebay (if at all) even if you do include the ebay auction id

He wont be able to leave you bad feedback for a start so dont worry about that.
Ignore him and you'll get a strike. He will get his fees back if you both do a mutual

Strikes last for ever, but sellers can only block you in 12 month periods.

Out of interest why does it look dodgy now and not before you bid, did something change in the listing?

does this mean i won't be able to buy anything or sell anything on ebay for 12 months? i just think it seems dodgy that his email address was not verified and that he took ages to reply to my messages about payment. also asking for money outside ebay seems dodgy too

A seller cannot block you with a single strike so it won't affect your buying at all, selling is not affected by strikes unless you have other issues on your seller dashboard.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean though about an unverified email address, he is the seller so as long as you paid via ebay/paypal you would be safe. However if you feel this is a scam then whatever the penalty to you it is worth walking away.

    Soolin types quicker than me.......

Sellers can exclude (block bids from) buyers with 2 or more strikes in the last 12 months.

1 would not have any effect.
