Mystery and Thriller Club, THREATS

Options
I received a book from a club I am supposed to have joined with a bill for 17.99.
I emailed the company and told them to collect the book.

I received no resonse until today when I received a letter with a demand for £17.99 and threats of debt collectors calling and legal action etc etc.

I rang their 0870 number (but didn't press 0 as instructed so got straight through to a person)
The person on the other end of the phone just said don't worry, ignore it, she would cancel the membership.

Thats fine as I know they were out of order, but what about people who would be really frightened into paying this money and more.

My question is, Who can I complain about this company to.

Hope someone knows

If you did not order the book, the sender commits an offence by demanding payment. Complain to your local Trading Standards.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

A lot of competitions have terms and conditions that by entering it you are applying for an account/ membership. When I worked for a catalogue company we had many competitions in the Sun to win rubbish (often thinks like 100 free bikinis) - the first 100 callers got the item and all of the applicants were registered for accounts and catalogues sent
