Should I take on another contract?

hi everyone,

I have a bit of a dilemma I have had a 3 Skype phone for the past 18 months (obv with three) and my contract is now up for renewal. I am short on cash at the moment (although managing to meet my obligations etc) so am wondering what to do - go on PAYG temp which could cost a futune as I do text a lot and depend on my mobile (no landline, rented house) to keep in touch with my family also for general phone calls. Looking at my past bills I can see calls to the tax office, applying for jobs, travelline etc.

If i did this I would need to buy a handset as the skype phone is locked on to Three.

On the other hand I'm managing to pay my bills so I could gain as at the moment I am on a £22 contract (including VAT but every month there are extras through calling 0870/0845 or using extra minutes etc so if I accounted for this then I could end up better off plus I could get a decent phone. Skype phone is dreadful!! ;((

Looking around the internet it seems that if I did it online I could even get cashback + a free gift with the right deal where as with a shop I get neigher of these....

The guy in the 3 shop recommended the HTC Hero and it does seem like a good phone .... plus as I would be likely to go on a 18 mth/2 yr contract its something that can be updated with additional applications unlike my current one. I'm stuck as to what to do? Any advice would be hugely appreciated
