    That smacks of desperation.....

If you were really convinced house prices will be crashing soon, you'd have no need to join a campaigning organisation.;)

The bears sure are getting rattled.:rotfl:

I'm not convinced of anything. Unlike yourself.

Not everyone is quite so sure they know everything, as you are, Hamish.

A little bit of doubt, even self-doubt, is a healthy thing, Hamish. It's the opposite of arrogance. :)

I think we all know what the majority of people on this forum think will be the future direction of house prices.

The reason we know is because Martin has helpfully provided a poll, and the sheer number of responses makes it "too big to rig" by the hpc crowd.

Last time I checked, 70% or so were expecting prices to remain stable or rise.;)

I'm not aware of Marting having conducted a poll on this board? Which Kohoutek was referring to...

    This is the poll
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/poll/08-03-2010/what-ll-happen-to-house-prices

    43% think a rise
    25% think stagnant
    31% think fall

Or to put it into hamish spinology:
    - More than half of the respondents thought house prices would stay the same or fall.

    You said "forum", not "board".

And this board is mostly just full of disgruntled hpc-ers, and their legion of sock puppets, so it hardly counts.;)

It's so difficult as sometimes one sees groups or campaigns and thinks to self, albeit in secret, 'why bother?'. I read that back and it sounds awful but I can't think of another way to write down what I mean.

I feel that all campaigns have merit...even Asheron's one at spreading 'The Word'.
I was a member of CIWF about 27 years ago and was absolutely passionate about it...caged hens and sow stalls etc.
Many years on they (and others?) succeeded in getting sow stalls banned in UK and outdoor rearing as standard. An amazing result but then the supermarklets wouldn't pay the higher price that the new welfare regs created...so bought in more from E Europe and Denmark.
Danish bacon is so bluddy cruel and makes me feel ashamed to part of the human race that treats animals in that way just to produce a cheap bit of meat.
    I digress......

............what I mean is some groups can really raise issues and influence law and change but, and I haven't read their campaign in depth, a not very good way of doing this is to go on the 'It's Not Fair' attack. I assume they understand the issues that have caused it but attacking the core reasons may have more effect?

House prices are a pain in the a$$ but when prices were far lower in relation to salary, interst rates were crazily high...and ordinary working people had to borrow to buy so, if I look at my own area, affordability is very on a par with the erly 90's.
It's just MHO and I still think lush beach houses with unobstructed views are grossly and unfairly overpriced.

And I'm sure there will be more along soon once the spring bounce starts, as hpc does have a nasty habit of banning everyone who points out prices are rising.;)

    :D

OK...I am having 2 hours special, prescious down time on MSE and elswhere.:D I am not bear or bull....more fluffy rabbit trying to avoid being trampled on or eaten....

I think we have a problem with our mindset in UK and things have gotten very comfortable. I define v comfortable with the fact that the welfare system catches 99% of people who fall on hard times and they don't starve or have to live in a box beside the St as in India.

The Enough book by John Naish really summed it up. Humans are wired for more and more. We also work hard to reduce effort.....inventing wheels, hydrolics, air con, engine and so on.

Accepting change and new ways of workimng are also difficult for many (incl myself) but I interract with many people (not UK born) from countries that are growing and working hard (China, E Europe and India)....the ones that threaten us and it'as a mindset that I am struggling to describe....a hunger doesn't call it right.

I am going to read more of their site before I comment further as what I have written is just off the top of my head....so I will properly read what they think before I write again.

Who knows? They may get a result it's just the Govt have been 'at it' for over a decade and I can't see what they can really do except raise taxes on LL and rents? But then that would push up rental levels....and HB bills. It's so /no win'.
