Check 1899 bill they charged me 50% VAT!!!

Hi just received my 5th bill from 1899 and here is the summary below...

Total (excl. VAT) £ 2.95
VAT 17.5% £ 1.52
Grandtotal (incl. VAT) £ 4.47

I have emailed them to ask the reason why I have been charged this...I will inform you when I get a reply!

Not quite 50% but near enough to warrant a snottogram!

they didn't send me an invoice since Nov 2004.

Should it be monthly invoice like 18866 ??

I've just checked my bill, and they've charged me VAT at 27% (£8 worth of calls with VAT of £2.17)

I've also just received a bill from 1899. To me it appears that the "Gross Total" is correct and they are misstating the split between the costs (without VAT) and VAT.

1899 quote their prices inclusive of VAT, e.g 3p connection charge plus 0.5p per minute to the US results in a four minute call being 5p.

If you look at the detailed analysis provided with your bill you will see that the individual calls are correctly priced inclusive of VAT and also that the total of adding up those calls is correct. Hence the Gross Amount (Inclusive of VAT) is correct.

Hence in my opinion 1899 have not overcharged me, aven although they are showing an amount of VAT which is equivalent to 36%, simply that they have misstated the split between the "net amount" excluding VAT and VAT.

Too true - just been through my biill and the grand total came to about £3.90 and the VAT element will be 68p so the overall bill is correct!

That's for a few call so spain. Using BT would've been £10/£12
