thunderbird and latest AVG9 update

Have got 2 PCs which run thunderbird and AVG 9 anti virus. Yesterday, they both got an update to AVG which required a system reboot. After the reboot, I got the following probems:
PC1) Thunderbid can no longer connect to mail servers (running Windows XP home)
PC2) Blue screen of death when thunderbird started up (running Windows XP pro).
I have uninstalled AVG 9 from both PCs and they are now fine (but no anti virus).
Anyone else got a problem with the recent AVG 9 update?
Have googled but nothing shows up.

Have had a problem with Outlook Express, where it will sometimes connect, next no connect. Uninstalled AVG and OE is now OK.0

there was an issue with the move from 7.5 to 8.0, if you used Googlemail then you had to alter the pop and smtp settings.
Might be worth checking.
Also AVG is not so well thought of these days, on the techie board it's a choice between, in no particular order, Avast, Avira and Microsoft Security Essentials.
Whatever you do you need something.
If you decide to remove AVG, use the appropriate removal tool from HERE.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Hello
I too had problems with that last update and its odd REBOOT request. Soon as rebooted the FIREFOX 3.6 browser failed to work....just blank screens possible.
I was only able to browse once AVG9 fully uninstalled.
Then next day re d/loaded the latest AVG and found exact same problem....FIREFOX failed to operate and only remedy to remove AVG9 again.
After using AVG for 7 years without a problem I have been forced to try AVIRA and have to get used to a whole new system for anti-virus.
Have seen postings on AVG site about the problems from several users but AVG seem to be avoiding dealing with it thus scaring the previous users to rivals.
