I wonder if the company is using this text message/bullying thing as an excuse to sack your gf when she's been off sick for a while. They might not have grounds to dismiss her if she's geniunely sick with stress and depression and can provide a sick note, but if it was due to miscounduct they might be able to dismiss your gf without any come back on the company. I would definately find a union rep or speak to citizens advice about this.

Just also want to add that while your gf is off sick the company won't have anyone else in her place so it would make sense to try and sack her for something like that so they can get someone else in. I hope she gets better soon.

You sound as if this is uncommon!

Oh come on, lets be honest, it is not difficult to fake the symptoms of stress and anxiety.

I am not suggesting it isn't.

Some may find the above quote somewhat insulting to those who are suffering from work related stress and I would suggest we give the OP and in particular, his girlfriend the benefit of the doubt.

The Doctor who has actually seen the person is obviously more qualified to determine what her condition is as opposed to some people on this thread suggesting she may be faking her condition without having the medical knowledge or indeed having even seen the person involved.

The reality is - irrespective of what anyone else thinks or assumes - is that the OP's girlfriend has a certficate signed from a medically qualifed person that has deemed her as unfit for work.

What others think or assume is totally irrelevant.

Actually not quite true Dpassmore, ultimately if the company are not getting help from the OP's GF (after requesting access to a written doctors report) then it is ok for the company to make assumptions on the longevity of the employee and to either keep or dismiss from their own records

You are not wrong jdturk , I hear what you say, and yes the company can do what you suggested. However, my reply was in response to the suggestions from others that the OP's girlfriend may be 'simulating' a condition which she may or indeed may not be suffering from.

For us sitting behind our computers, we are hardly in a position to determine if there is a condition or otherwise - all I was suggesting is that for the benefit of this thread, we give the OP's girlfriend the benefit of the doubt based on a diagnosis from a medical practitioner.

Yes - it could also be argued that the OP's girlfriend is not helping her cause, however, should the matter progress further in respect of unfair dismissal claims etc, it would be for others to decide whether the OP's girlfriend or the company she works for have acted appropriately and I am sure the Doctors note would enter the equation somewhere down the line.
What others think or assume is totally irrelevant.

Again, the above quote by me was in reference to the questioning of a professional medical diagnosis by those who are in no position to do so - and did not relate to any other aspect of the OP's GF's current employment situation.

The OP and their partner need to be worried about what the store might infer from her going sick again, not what a random bunch of interweb forum people think, which is the point I think the original comment about her illness was making. I don't see what there possibly was to take offence at in that... because rightly or wrongly the store may feel that way and the OP and their partner should indeed be concerned that might happen.

I agree but I think it's because the OP has purposely missed out information on the "personal trouble" in his first post as he thinks it is irrelevant.

Sorry Olly, tbh i didnt want to broadcast to everyone and their dog that she has been off with stress and depression (with a valid doctors certificate for the doubters) following several incidents last year.

Sick note provided, signed by a doctor and handed to manager as required to, amazes me how many people can assume she's takin a few weeks off for the fun of it, let me tell you the last few weeks (before all this text crap) have been anything but fun

Thank you to those who have shown a little understanding
