barclay Card Problems please Help?

I have a credit card with Barclay card which has an outstanding balance of 3500.
but am really struggling to pay this now I have had the card since 1996 and always managed to pay it until 1 year ago I had a stroke when I came out of hospital I notified all my creditors and most of them either got me to claim off an life style protect insurance which I had or came to some sort of other agreement with me. which has -paid off 10% of my balance on all cards each month except Barclay card as I did not have this protection for Barclay card since I have had the card my credit limit had been increased at regular intervals without asking me if I wanted the extra credit limit since being off sick I am now on benefits i.e. ESA of £64.00 per week out of this money I have to pay for food gas electric and mortgage along with prescriptions of at least £52.00 per month for the last year my other 3 cards are now nearly paid off now using the life style protect insurance thank god. I have written to Barclay card on 3 occasions asking them to come to some sort of agreement with me but they do not respond the only thing that they have done is get a debt collecting agency in India to call me sometimes up to 12 and 13 times per day I have written to Barclay card asking them to please stop doing this but the phone calls do not stop I am trying to get back to work but my employers are now making it difficult for me to return to work I have a unite union rep on to this and he is now pushing the company to let me return to work saying that I am covered under the dda act these phone calls are now starting to drive me crazy as they do not stop, Barclay card want me to now pay them the whole balance any saving that I had before I got sick have now completely run out someone please help I am now at my wits end and feel like taking an overdose to kill myself I know that probably sounds a bit melodramatic but that is exactly how I feel right now

  • Morning Judy,

What type of ESA are you on? Can you get free prescriptions or at least some help towards it?

With Barclaycard, you say you've written to them three times, have you got copies of the letters, if so, send a letter of complaint to

Barclaycard, Customer Relations Department, PO BOX 9131, 51 Saffron Road, Leicester, LE18 9DE

provide as much information as you can, attach copies of the letters that you've sent previously. According to their site, they aim to answer all complaints within 4 weeks (at worst 8), and then if you are not happy with their response you can go to the FOS http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/default.htm (it may be worth having a look at their site first to get some ideas and pointers).
In spite of the cost of living, it’s still popular

:precieve a letter back from barclay card yesterday within the 14 days as set out in my orginal letter the letter has what appears to be a copy of the original agreement that i signed in 2003 there appears to be little black crossings out on the part where my details are the contract appears to be fairly ledigble at the top of the page it says credit agrement regulatedby the consumer credit act 1974 there is some illedigaal small writing and the the letterf R29/01 what should i do now i do not have the money to make them an offer or even pay the next payment i have written to barclay card on serveral occasions asking them to come to some agreement with me as i am still off sick from work and only getting £64.00 per week contributory ESA

I think that you can pay an annual fee for prescriptions which may save you some money. I know it's no help with Barclaycard. I would be tempted to block their number from my phone if that's possible.

i do not know how to block telephone numbers from my phone i would prefer to come to some sort of arrangment with them but they ignore my requests for this i have written to them on 3 occasions asking for this but get no responce my esa is paid so irregularly that i could not afford to buy and annual prescription certificate and the DWP now wants me to go to a back to work medical so that they can stop my esa also the medical is now on 13th april but even after this my employers will not agree with any one and say i can return to work so when the DWP stop my esa things will get worse and i will have nothing what so ever to live i am now getting desperate and do not know what to do perhaps suicide is an option i do not know any more i could not help getting sick

If you are paying £52 a month on prescriptions then you would be better off with either a 3 monthly or an annual prescription charge

    12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
    3-month PPC: £28.25

If you can't afford the annual one in one go then you can certainly afford the 3 month one as you are paying almost twice that a month anyway.
actually found Barclays pretty good to deal with-have you sent in a statement of income/outgoings to them?

    What rubbish advice.
Burying their head in the sand will not help the OP at all.

I am also suprised that the OP tried the get out of jail free card.
    Just make them an offer.

Yes-if all you can afford is £5 a month then just pay that...they can't do anything to you as long as you regularly pay something-my ex husband has been paying off £1 a month for the past year on cards with a balance much higher than yours. What is the minimum payment on the card at present?
