Switching from contract to PAYG (BlackBerry user)

Options
Hi there,

I've had a mobile phone contract for the last six years or so (O2, followed by Orange and now T-Mobile). I've decided that it's finally time to take the plunge to PAYG once my contract ends next month...the PAYG deals these days are really tempting for what I need (not to mention the fact that I'll be saving an awful lot each month).

I am currently paying £47-ish a month on T-Mobile for 800 mins, unlimited texts and web, and a BlackBerry internet service (my contract was £40/m but had to add extra for the BlackBerry service when I switched phone last year - my contract term does not allow tariff downgrade, I'm afraid).

I would like to keep using my BlackBerry and switch to PAYG or one of those 30 day cancellation sims. I would like to have one where I can keep the BlackBerry internet service though, so that I can receive e-mails/use the web features of the phone. I'd ideally like something in the region of 200-300 minutes and 300+ (ideally 500) texts. I won't need unlimited web if I can just get a BlackBerry service added (don't mind paying £5 extra month for this).

Can anyone recommend something? I have seen some good 30 day contract deals, but no mention of any with a BlackBerry service. The Virgin 200 mins/unlimited texts for £10 a month is really tempting, but no BB service mentioned. I may give them a call though...thing is, I want to keep my number. This deal ends on March 31st, and my contract isn't up until the end of April. If I get a new number from Virgin, can I request it be changed to my current one about a month down the line?

Many thanks.

  • Here are O2's offerings... Naturally, if you are prepared to sign up for 12 months it becomes cheaper.

Thanks very much for this. I will consider switching to this...though I have avoided O2 for a while because - when I was on O2 - I'd often get a network busy signal when trying to make calls and people calling me would get redirected to voicemail even though my phone wasn't off/engaged. I still experience it with some of my friends on O2 at the moment, where I get redirected to VM despite there being no reason for it to happen.
