    Jobseekers are required to attend when instructed to do so, if they do not then they must show good cause, if you could not attend the appointments offered to you then they were right to ask why as this information would be used to determine good cause.

    You can, of course go shopping with your mum or anybody else you choose, please disregard the nonsense about signing off and reclaiming. You must be available for work, I'm not aware that going shopping will cause you to be not available.

    Available for work does mean that you must be immediately available to attend a job interview, but going shopping does not preclude this.

    You mention job hunting, you are required to take no fewer than three steps to find work, so a shopping trip shouldn't interfere with that. Indeed, should you enquire about vacancies in one of those shops you will have taken a step to find employment.

    You have not yet signed a jobseeker's agreement so the rules can be relaxed slightly - you're not to know what your responsibilities are.
