Yep, one-size-fits-all. No need to look up from script, no need to scratch head or engage brain. In fact, OK to leave brain on pillow.

Not true but better than what you're suggesting. Treat British people well and immigrants badly-what a good idea!

Because OH is self employed, his work and income varies from week to week so we are only looking at me claiming CB JSA at the moment (thought it would be less complicated), and may not qualify for housing costs so wasn't planning on applying for that.

The Shelter website is handy to understand Local Housing Allowance (for tenants) and the various schemes available to Home Owners who are hitting problems paying their mortgage.

Put your details into the Entitled To website to double check entitlement.

    Rant alert.

The jobcentre staff are there for one reason and one reason only, to ensure you meet the defined rules for claiming JSA.

They do not care about what you do or when you do it, they give no meaningful help or advice, they spend their time gossiping when they are meant to be having appointments with people, they make snide comments, they seem incapable of doing their job properly, ask them to do anything more complex than booking another appointment and they get flustered and have to call a band of their fellow half wits to advise them.

I have no idea how half of them got jobs at my local jobcentre, they don't know their !!!! from their elbow, they are the most arrogant and moody people you will ever come across.

If you are late attending they rant on about rules and sanctions if you do it again, yet if they are late seeing you and you question why, they rant about how they can do what they want, and see you when they want because your unemployed and have nothing better to do that sit in there for an hour or two.

That may be your experience but a lot of people do find that they are just human beings like everyone else and most do their best under difficult circumstances.

they spend their time gossiping when they are meant to be having appointments with people,

I agree with this, last time I had an interview, I was kept waiting 15 mins, while I watched them all milling around, having a chat etc. One lady came over to ask who I was, name not on the list, then another voice piped up saying I was on hers... Had a very nice chat with the lady, in which she told me about her bad back and how her bag had been stolen out of her car.... not sure what that has to do with me finding a job!! I've yet to see the same person twice, considering I am supposed to have a lone parent advisor...

I seriously doubt this was said, why is it busy in the jobcentres? look at the unemployment figures. If anyone says you have nothing better to do since you're unemployed you should report them.

A large amount of front line Jobcentre staff have been recruited in the last year, it's not incompetence that they do not know the answers it's because they might be unsure and don't want to give you incorrect information.

When I had to attend my local JCP in connection with my ESA claim I was amazed at the peaceful atmosphere and at how kind, helpful and polite the staff were.
It was more like being in a rather nice hotel reception! Totally not what I expected!
